Question ~ On surgery day, are you weighed in your clothes or after your in your gown?

Hello Ladies!!!

I hope you all have fun today and I wish I could be there. At work now and tonight I have to pack and get up at o dark thirty for my 6am flight. Have fun at the support group meeting as well!

Tamra - Best wishes on Wednesday! I can’t wait to check-in later in the week to see how you are doing!! Yes most people do get weighed in. You either have one or two gowns on and special socks. For my first surgery in June all they had was the old fashion scale. In August they still had the old fashion scale but they used a new digital one located in the back of the nurse’s station. Richmond only did three surgeries at a time but they recently expanded the area to double or triple in size so if they are really busy they might not weigh you. Though I would be ready for it and they have now been turning more people away if they are above goal. The staff is great except for one lady that blabbed to another nurse after my first failure that I didn’t get a band. I hadn’t been told yet as I just woke up in the recovery room and overheard them. I couldn’t believe what she said as my stomach had all the scares… Ten minutes or so later my wife walked in and I could just tell by her face that something was wrong. Seconds later the doc came in to explain things… I guess the nurses got in trouble and after my second failure I woke to the doc and a nurse. After waking I immediately looked at my wrist as I asked the doc to put something on indicating things went well. Well nothing was on my wrist and the doc was at the end of the bed starting to explain things… For me I hope third time is a charm! I think the worst part of the day is the barium swallow, it’s so gross. Best of luck!!!

Pat – You’re next!!!

Well I weighed in Friday at Roseville and I’m down ten pounds since my Richmond appointment two weeks ago though I don’t believe it. I think it’s more like 6-7 pounds. Now if I can just moderate myself next week in Cancun! I will be with 22 other couples and two have bands so it could go either way! :w00t: They are old military work friends, we have cruised before and it’s pretty entertaining!

Work is quite on the weekends so I can jump on a PC that allows me to post, most of our computers block many sites…

I hope you all have a fantastic week! Keep up the awesome work!

Lee - I live in Elk Grove - not sure where you live, but everyone is welcome. I've been up since 7:30 am - got the house cleaned (downstairs at least), eggs boiled and I just need to make a quick trip to the store to get a couple of items. My 13 yr old son is going to my parents' house with my dogs - but my other two will be here. Two kids are over playing right now and I told all of them they'd better not make a mess.

Sorry you can't make it Nicole - keep your leg elevated.

Not sure who is coming, but we'll see when everyone gets here.

Need to go make the deviled eggs - see some of you later. :w00t:

Tamra - you are doing great. I am snacking too much today; stressed about work. I am getting a new boss, and I have a ton of things to get done before I am out. So don't have time to do all the intro stuff and getting him up to speed. My old boss and I get along very well and she has been really supportive. The new one has no personality and disagrees with every idea I have made in the last 6 months so I am stressed. I just didn't need this extra stress with a week to go! I was up again last night - listened to the affirmation tape - it helped a little. Don't worry about the complications; Kaiser has one of the best programs in the country and you are in really good hands. It will go fine and you will feel icky for a few days and then things will start to get better. Do you have some help for the first couple of days with your daughter?

John - congrats on getting your surgery date and your weight loss - way to go!

Lee - you are also doing really well - you should be very soon. Yes, I was obsessed with information during my first few months getting into the program. Now, 7 months later I feel well informed and well cared for in the Kaiser program so I think I am at a point that I think it is time just to act. There is nothing in life that is risk free and I think I have evaluated the risks with this and feel confident that they are small, especially in Kaiser's program, and the risks of being 100lbs overweight are equally concerning. Most of all the risks to me mentally and spiruallly if I can't make some changes in this area I feel are reasons for moving forward. We all have to take this inner journey at our own pace, however. I think it is a little different for each of us.

Nicole - I am so sorry about your fall. Dr. Park told me that ibuprophen was OK so don't worry about the motrin. But like Pam and Monique said - ice, ice, ice and elevate.

Lee - I agree that with Kaiser's weight loss requirement it

Tina where do you live?

Pat ~ Don't let the stress get to you!! I have been trying to stay calm all this weekend, I need to prepare. I am going to listen to the CD they gave us also. As for my daughter my mom is taking her the night before the surgery and I am getting her the day after. My ex is going to take Friday off to help me also. I told him he has to keep Brianna from jumping/hanging/grabbing me, she's pretty rough. Also need to keep the dog/cats away from me, as they love jumping on my belly.

So I broke two of my nails off today on my right hand, and my bf says uh its suppose to be one on each hand LOL! Now I will be missing 3! leave it up to me!

Ah he is a great doctor Tamra you will be fine!! I just worry about you having your daughter on Thursday. If I lived closer I could take her for you for a day. I had a hard time with a teenager...........and ah yea the cats!!! OMG the cats!! My kitten hit my port every darn time she jumped...........I could see it coming but I couldn't move fast enough to avoid the impact!!

I sleep in a recliner for 2 weeks..........bed was to hard to get in a out of. Heating pad...........loved my heating pad for sure. You gonna be really tired Tamra. I was wiped out tired for a couple of weeks.

Found out from RObin Dr. Baggs put in my chart I would taste meat!!!! That is so funny. The things they put in the charts I never knew...........Robin said she knew it was not true!! LOL!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
