Tamra, you can have potatoes! Some people didn't lose well with the carbs, but I did fine with the diet... exactly like it says in the book. I would wait to see how you deal with it, then tweak it to your needs. Don't fret over one potato! Oh, and I know you said you don't do milk or eggs, do you do yoghurt?

I can do yogurt, as long as it isnt plain.

I am going to weigh in next week JUST to see, then tweak the diet if needed...

Hey there ladies.... finally friday! What a week.

oh, when I talked to Sara she asked me when I wanted to have surgery and because of work I said early Sept. So she said have your labs next week meaning this week. Anyway, a EKG is only a 5 second test so I'm sure I can do it again whenever.

Wow Maria we are on a roll....3 people on deck

Yea amazing we do have three people on deck!! That went fast.

My band seems to be loosening up a bit. Today I was starved. Still did the protien shake and yogurt this morning to break the band in. But for lunch I had a burrito and Qdoba without the tortilla and get this I ate it all. Ok yes it did take me from 1-5 to eat it. I would eat a bit wait awhile take a few more bites..........well ok I admit it I cheated my band today!! But since that was my dinner and lunch I figured I needed to get something in and keep in down today.

So two good days in a row now. I am learning how do this............eat really slow and chew everything at least twenty times. Or else PB. And I can't socialize and eat I get stuck. I have to eat by myself right now it works better. I was asked out to eat tonight and said no......just not worth it I knew I would get struck!

ok not that I am eating again and not just protien shakes I should start losing again. 3 pounds since last week...........

Tina, so glad it's finally working out for you - you have conquered the band! LOL

Nicole - Auds is adorable and I appreciate the offer but NO THANKS. Hey what hotel do you stay at? Donna needs a referral - she's going on Sunday to Marine World/Discovery Kingdom. You should PM her and give her the 411. i know it's sad that I live here and have no clue BUT... I live here and never stay at the hotels here LOL

Tamra, I agree with Heather - as I posted before, I knew my body didn't work with carbs at all but tried it the 1200 cal way for two weeks just to be sure - I gained weight so Dr. Fisher told me to cut the carbs. Nobody knows your body like you do - I just know mine because of ALL the previous diets I've been on! Here is what I do know for fact though, sugar (carbs) are designed to make you want/crave more - that is why they put it in everything. Protein & fat keep you full longer and have no craving side effects. For some, sugar substitutes trigger the cravings - they don't for me.

I'm watching discovory ID - they are just now telling us that lack of sleep causes weight gain.

congrats Maria! You're lucky with the weight loss goal - You just may be having your surgery around the same time as Jes & I. What days are you free? where abouts do you live?

Oh, boy - we think we got troubles - these people on TV are "Sleep Eaters" they get up about 6 - 7 times a night and raid the fridge - brownies, Cookies, chips - soda! They have no knowledge of it in the morning but are tired during the day. Weird sleep disorder!

Headed over to San Fransico today with family. Should be fun!!

Qdoba make me sick all night. I guess I am not use to all the white rice and sour cream I had yesterday.......... I don't know but my stomach felt it all night. I am not used to that many carbs anymore............not doing that again. I haven't been there since surgery 14 weeks ago.

Weird cause I was going to Qdoba a few times a week before surgery with no problems. Now I can't really handle their food, tortilla or not...............

Anyone else get sick when they vary and eat alot of carbs?? Hmmm...................I sorta like my new way of eating this is crazy!! I am used to not eating all the stuff anymore and my stomach rebelled.

Luckily no throwling up or PB'ing but enough to make me not want to touch food right now. Even Water sounds like a bad idea right now............

This is like lap band dumping or something!!! Is there such a thing?

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
