Wow my chatty girls!

Marie let usknow how it goes:D

Candra just know the binder, where you find things etc.. You only get really asked about it if you get a question wrong. :crying:

Thanks jess, ill tell mike:) He is IT. He was going for technician rolls, but i guess hes a jr level engineer according to who he is interviewing with. But that is not a good thing, because they are either looking for tech support or engineers. AND, since the job market is sooo infatuated with people applying they are going for the highest educated for lil money. whatever ridiculous lol.

Well we are going yard saling ttyl.

Anyone from Sonoma County or surrounding area (Napa, Mendo, Lake) who might be reading this thread, this is a great BIG support group that meets the 2nd Saturday of every month at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts. It is for all kinds of WLS (most folks have had RNY; let's get some more bandsters in here!) and folks who are considering WLS. VERY motivational and inspiring to hear some of these stories! I don't wear mascara to these :crying:

Reminder from: SoCoRNYWLSSupport Yahoo! Group

Title: Sonoma County RNY- WLS Support Group

Date: Saturday August 8, 2009

Time: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Repeats: This event repeats every month on the second Saturday.

Next reminder: The next reminder for this event will be sent in 7 days, 1 minute.

Location: WELLS FARGO CENTER FOR THE ARTS

Notes: Our weight loss surgery support group meets the 2nd Saturday of each month. We meet at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts. We will be in our regular meeting room, the Carston Cabaret. Park and enter through the south entrance. Watch for the signs. This month we will be having general check-in meeting. This is a time where everyone gets an opportunity to share where they are in their journeys. It's a time to share your experiences, give and get support. Pre-op, post-op or just checking out your possibilites, this is a meeting not to be missed! Please feel free to invite your support people to join you. It's a wonderful way for them to gain a better understanding of your journey. We will be having the regular clothing exchange. Please remember to return books that you borrowed from our book exchange or bring new books to share. Steering committee meets at 9:00 a.m., right before the meeting. Anyone interested is encouraged to come. See you there!!

WOW - can't you all just give me cheet sheet or something - tell me what questions she's gonna ask - I have such a TERRIBLE memory - can she fail me? kick me out of the program??

Jes, I'm confused - wait till September for what? Your EKG can't be more than 1 month old when you have surgery so since they've already ordered the EKG and it's been done, the surgery should be within the next 30 days. My appt with Liz is wednesday!

Ok, so I had a hoorible scare yesterday - Just for the F**K of it I decided to weigh myself late in the day after I've eaten & drinken all my Water just to see what the scale would say since my appt with liz is so late in the day - that damn scale said 205.8 - Holly Crap! I gained weight in the last 3 days! So, I weighed myself this morning after I dried my hair and it said 201.9 whew! Guess it's starvation mode for me on wenesday - no food or water during the day!

Candra - complete the test before your appointment and use your binder to complete it. If you have all the answers right she probably won't ask you any questions. I missed one question, but I told her I looked through the binder but couldn't find the exact information for the question and she was alright with that.

I'm taking my kids to the roller rink this evening - I am going to skate too - hope I don't fall.

Little sips of Water only, and I always eat freeze-dried apple slices before I weight in down there! bring plenty of water with you tho, cause you can start chugging as soon as you weigh in! For the Liz appt., they weight you on the scale in the bariatric office, NOT on the one in the first exam roonm on the right, which is MY personal favorite . . . but still, I was enough under to never be over . . . if that makes any sense!

I honestly have been wracking my brain trying to remember her questions . . one was how long after surgery should you begin to excercise, one was when should you start taking Vitamins and Calcium, one was give me an example of a Stage 3 food, all that kind of stuff! I got like FOUR wrong on my test, I was totally embarrassed but she was SO great about it, I just love Liz. She knows you are in a support group and that makes a 1000% difference for her, she's not going to be worried about you! NO she will not fail you or kick you out of the program. In fact, when I went to my pre-op class, there were 2 girls in there who had questions like, "why does RNY lose weight faster than the lap-band?" "what is a fill?" "will I have a port?" why do I have to take vitamins, why can't I gain weight before surgery, stuff like that. It AMAZED me! It was like orientation all over again. Yet those folks had all gotten through their CM appointments! You will be a ROCK STAR - just know where to look stuff up in your binder. She will especially want to know that YOU know where to find answers to the questions you will have AFTER surgery.

TOTALLY allowed, sister! Just use it to replace some carbs that you would otherwise be allowed later.

I still have my venti decaf soy latte (made with sugar-free, low-fat chocolate Soy Slender milk) every single day, sometimes twice a day! 120 cals 15 grams of Protein 7 grams of Fiber, net carbs <2. And I log them in - one at Breakfast, if I have another one later I log it as a snack - and Robin always tells me to stop it but I never do! Not, not giving them up. Hey we gotta live . . .she does say "well, the most important thing for me is that you are on an eatingplan that is going to work for you for the rest of your life." She can't tell me it's OK because I am drinking my calories and, as you know, she HAS TO BE CONSITENT!! But hey, she can't argue with my results :-)

Candra dont worry about Liz, just do your test and dont show her any weakness:) Just smile and if you dont know where something is look for it and ask her whichsection. She is very helpful, i got 1 question halfway wrong, it was about the what causes us to get stuck.. and i said 2 of the reasons but missed i believe it was eating to fast.. or something stupidlike that. She just wants to know HOW you have lost all that weight:D You are doing so well!

Jess, how would sept be ur surgery time did you do all ur tests already?? My tests were ordered in Jan after i saw dr baggs, but i am a procrastinator and wanted to do them AFTER i saw liz.. which was a good thing. Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
