Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Recommended Posts

Tamra, don't stress too much. I've never lost more than 17 lbs in my life. Then I got on the Richmond pre-op diet and it really has been working for me. I've already lost twice as much weight as I ever did in the past, and I did it in half the time. I was so scared this would be another diet that wouldn't work, but I realized that now is the time. I'm finally ready to work extra hard and get strict with myself. I had trouble the first few days because rule #1 is No Snacking. Ever. I didn't realize how much I had been eating between meals without even realizing it.

I know you'll do great, You're a part of the group! It's amazing what a difference the forum and all this support makes. Will we see you Saturday?

No, I don't have a babysitter for my very active 2 year old :bored:

Talked to the Dr., they said I HAVE to attend this class before moving forward. It's 2 hours. They said it is mandatory per the Surgeons and my doctor...Oh well...

Tamra--at our fill today they said that this 2 hour mandatory class is new. So at least you know that this is step 1 and you'll be officially started in the process and it's not just an info class...

Our fill went well, there were about a dozen people there! I was kinda surprised...I was third to last called in for the fill (wanted Dr. Baggs to be nice and warmed up anyway!) and left at 12 noon. I had 6.5 cc's and he gave me .5 today so I have 7cc's in my 10cc band. I told him I always want to be on the conservative side of fills and that I've never PB'd, slimed, been stuck, thrown up, etc. and want it to STAY that way. He agreed. My next fill is only 3 weeks from tomorrow! July 17th at 9am. I'm glad that it's soon considering I may not feel a ton of restriction from this conservative fill.

I was down 10 lbs from my last fill 6 weeks ago today and he was really happy about that. It was a good day and great to see Tina, Riley, Nicole and to meet Candra and Tina's daughter.

Oh! Liz was there today too and did some of the fills, not mine though. I feel more comfortable with my surgeon doing it cuz I know he'll do it fast and right. I really like Liz though and it was fun to catch up with her again.

It's good to know what I have in store for the future - It was great to finally meet Riley, Nicole & Christine (Christine, those pics were great but they don't really do you justice!)

Thanks Candra! Boy am I ever gonna have to do something about all those wrinkles - I look like a Sharpei!!! I like the one with me, Nicole & Tina though - they make me look old, but at least I'm not squinting too!

Thanks Christine - I love my haircut! I need color though; the Water was off in the shop when I went in for the cut, so I never got the color - that reminds me, I'd better call my hairdresser right now!!

Oh yeah, thanks for the reminder Candra - Lake Tahoe Marathon, Lake Tahoe Marathon

Yey! I would love to have some of my lap-band girls sign up! I am sharing a room with 2 other girls, assuming they both go; so we got room for at least one more if you want to go with us ("Team Thrive") and share a room for cheap! !! We are staying both the night before (gotta acclimate to being that high!) and the night after (to party of course!! The healthy way, certainly, but healthy people can party big too!)

OMG, you all look so good! I would have loved to be there. Next time. Well I can't wait to get my fill in two weeks, because my stomach is growling more and I have hit a major plateau. Any ideas as to how to break it?

Chris, Riley, Nicole, Candra looking good Divas!!!

If you have 2 weeks worth of food logs, you can fax them to Robin & she will review them and give you ideas on how to break your plateau

Today was interesting! So how many let Liz do their fills?? Just Nicole?

Thanks Riley , you are funny! I think my body has adjusted to the 1/4 cup for a while and probably needing to adjust. I've only cheated once and it hurt so bad that I refrained from temptations LOL.

I called her earlier today.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
