Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I know I'm posting in the wrong section b/c I think most if not all of you are from Northern Cali...(I'm down in Southern Cali). Well, I'm new to the forum and to LapBandTalk and I'm attending a 12-week options class through Kaiser as well...

Does anyone know if there is a section for us Kaiser Riverside Pre-Op in southern Cali?

Thanks!:blushing:

Tam - I know I know. I have been so hungry and stressed this week - not a good combination. Wed night I had a craving for Peanut Butter and had 5 tbsp (not all at once - but kept going back). Bad bad. By some miracle I was down this morning - broke through my 50% / 58 lbs! Yeah. But I am really worried because I can't stick to just the 1/3 c. of Protein that we are suppose to have at each meal or just the 2 tbsp of veggies or the 1/4 piece of fruit. And I worry about stretching my pouch and the band slipping - uggghhh. This is hard. My calories are still low, but I'm worried. I just don't feel anything and feel I could eat and eat and eat and my stomach growls. OK enough b----ing and whining. I got it off my chest - now I'm done! We've got to stay strong and master this thing. I keep telling myself only 6 weeks until my fill appt with Dr. P - I can tough it out - 6 weeks isn't a lifetime!

Jess - so cool you got another fill. I'm glad Dr. P was sympathetic - did you have to meet with Robin first?

Oh no - it's raining here in Sacramento - and Nicole's wedding is in a park - but I am sure they must have had a back up plan.

Happy Wedding Day Nicole and Robbie! Hey they are getting married on my birthday - I will be able to remember their anniversary for sure.

Oops... it is really raining hard. I hope Nicole has a beautiful wedding even with the rain.

My doctor appointment with Dr. Baggs went really well last night. I am 7 pounds under my goal weight for surgery, so all is a green light to go. Only 10 more sleeps until my operation and I am getting pretty excited. I know reality will set in at the puree stage though. (I feel your pain John.) On the way back from Richmond we stopped at Applebees. I am totally impressed with the number of low cal options they have on their menu. I was able to eat well without blowing it. I hope more restaurants follow suit soon for America's sake. Posting calorie counts on menus is a great behavior modification technique.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Oh Tam, I'm sorry. I agree, you really just have to make up your mind to tough it out. I think Riley talked a while back about exercising the resistance muscle. I know it is hard, but we need more successful days than off days to make progress. I did a little better yesterday

B: scrambled eggs with ff cheese, spinach & onion ( 1 reg. egg & 1/4 c of egg beaters); 1/4 piece toast w/ LF butter

L: 2.5 oz grilled chicken, 3 tbsp green Beans, 2 tbsp yam with a little bit of LT butter and cinnamon

S: licked the spoon a few times when I made brownies and cupcakes for concessions!

D: 3 oz bbq chicken (skinless); 2 tbsp spinach with a litte LF butter and lemon juice; 2 tbsp yam with a little bit of LT butter and cinnamon

s: 4oz of sugar free Jello

Again, some of the portions are a little more than the binder say but it was all good foods - also I don't know if you noticed but the portion sized for suggested meals in the binder don't always match what the guideline is - like for eggs and cottage cheese. Oh well, we just have to do the best we can to eat litely I guess.

Today looks like a beautiful day and it is suppose to be nice all week - so next Saturday should be beautiful for our walk and lunch! Can't wait to see you and everyone.

Have a great Saturday (I can't wait to hear about CoCo's wedding and see pics.)

Heather and I had a nice 2.5 mile walk this morning - it is really nice outside today.

I notice a lot of the post banders are measuring their food by weight instead of measurement - do any of see if your 3 oz of chicken will fit in a 1/2 cup container? From what I was told and what the binder says, we are supposed to measure our food, not weigh it - the pouch is only so big and once you have restriction you can't go by weight as fish doesn't weigh much but you can't fit 1 cup of fish in your pouch without eventually stretching it. -never mind it will probably come back up for lack of space. I have never weighed my food post op - even when I didn't have restriction so that I would be used to measuring my food.

I did well with my food this week and lost 4 lbs - just one more two more to get to where I was before my out of control week of sliders when my relatives were here.

South Sac Kaiser doesn't have the Mindful Eating class anymore - I saw my psych doctor at the Elk Grove Kaiser yesterday (she specializes in food issues) and she told me that. I told her I weighed the same now that I did last March and she said at least I dont' weigh more and that I should use that as a positive. She really gets the food connection to emotions. She gave me a lot to think about - her name is Dr. Paula Smith if anyone here is interested.

Pam – In the pre-op classes for the post-op meal plan they taught both measuring by weight and by size (cups) for band patients. My binder has it done both ways for band patients, not sure why but some food is measured by weight and other stuff is measured by size. For Sleeve they make sure it is all measured by size only.

I had my first real what you guys call PB’ing today. I was so tired of Purees I decided to have a very small amount of Boston Market chicken and mashed potatoes. I really had just a small amount, about 1/3 cup of food total. It will take me a week to finish the one plate I bought. Well everything went down ok and I was pleased as I’ve had some thick Soups that went down and I felt pressure of such a small stomach. I had about 1/3 cup of white meat chicken, mashed potatoes and corn bread. All of it fit into a 1/3 cup. I chewed it very well.

About ten minutes later I was salivating over the sink for ten minutes. I burped a couple times which made me feel better so I went to sit down. Bad move because a few minutes later I ran for the sink and everything I ate came back up. Sorry for the TMI. What was so different was it was such a slow regurgitation. I was a bit scared. I’m only a couple days away from moving to soft foods so I hope this gets better as it was not fun! I guess this is what I get for moving ahead a couple days early. Going to talk to the doc next week about the incident. Sleeve patients are supposed to be able to eventually eat about a cup of food in one sitting.

I hope everyone if having a wonderful weekend! Looking forward to hearing about the wedding!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
