Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Recommended Posts

Good morning! Whoa, it's noon. So It's my day off and I'm sick. Luckily I have no plans or appts today. I can just sit on the couch being sore and sick. Have I mentioned how I love being sore. It makes me feel like I've actually done something worth a damn. Last night we did 30 minutes of intervals on the elliptical/arc tranier thing. Then we went to the outdoor basketball court to do some core work. I could see the steam coming off me! So cool.

Reggie- I bought the pesto, how much did you use for that chicken? Were those chickens swimming in pesto or just marinated? I need to make some chicken! lol.

Coco- I have more Soup if you want. We're kind of souped-out. Robbie can definately have the recipe!

John & Lee- Do they let you see your stomach before they dispose of it? I'd kinda want to see mine in a jar so I could say a proper goodbye. Is that wrong? Of course, when I was 16 and in my first car accident I almost lost a toe, and I wanted them to get me a mirror so I could see how bad it was. (The ER nurse lifed the toe and said "cool" so I really wanted to see it too) Funny, since the boyfriend can't handle anything like that and I've got this sick curiosity.

Anyway, I'm hoping to get out for a walk around the neighborhood for at least a few minutes. Oh! And I wore my MBTs to work yesterday, it was our 1 jeans and tennies shoes day of the month, so I wore thos MBTs and felt great. I can't tell if they made me sore or if that's the trainer's fault.

Heather put a lot, I also marinated it with more black pepper, garlic and chicken bullion. Put it in the fridge for a while. Broil it, don't bake because you want to capture all the flavor.

Bon Appetite!

Hey everyone, so someone sent this to me at work and it's so true I had to post it....enjoy!

A WOMAN'S WEEK AT THE GYM

If you read this without laughing out loud, there is something wrong with you. This is dedicated to everyone who ever attempted to get into a regular workout routine.

Dear Diary,

For my birthday this year, my Husband (the dear) purchased a week of personal training at the local health club for me.

Although I am still in great shape since being a high school football cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try.

I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Christo, who identified himself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear.

My husband seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started. The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.

________________________________

MONDAY:

Started my day at 6:00 a.m. Tough to get out of bed,

but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Christo waiting for me.

He is something of a Greek god - with blond hair, dancing eyes and a dazzling white smile.

Woo Hoo!!

Christo gave me a tour and showed me the machines.

I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which he conducted his aerobics class after my workout today.

Very inspiring!

Christo was encouraging as I did my sit-ups,

although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time he was around.

This is going to be a FANTASTIC week !!

________________________________

TUESDAY:

I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door.

Christo made me lie on my back and push a heavy Iron bar into the air then he put weights on it!

My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile.

His rewarding smile made it all worthwhile.

I feel GREAT !! It's a whole new life for me.

_______________________________

WEDNESDAY:

The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter

and moving my mouth back and forth over it.

I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals.

Driving was OK as long as I didn't try to steer or stop.

I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot.

Christo was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered other club members.

His voice is a little too perky for that early in the morning and when he scolds,

he gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying.

My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Christo put me on the stair monster.

Why the hell would anyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators?

Christo told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. He said some other stuff too.

______________________________

THURSDAY:

A__hole was waiting for me with his vampire-like teeth

exposed as his thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl.

I couldn't help being a half an hour late - it took me that long to tie my shoes.

He took me to work out with dumbbells.

When he was not looking, I ran and hid in the restroom.

He sent some skinny little thing to find me.

Then, as punishment, he put me on the rowing machine

-- which I sank.

_________________________________

FRIDAY:

I hate that Christo more than any human being

has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world.

Stupid, skinny, anemic, anorexic little aerobic instructor.

If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat him with it

Christo wanted me to work on my triceps. I don't

have any triceps! And if you don't want dents in the

floor, don't hand me those barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich.

The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn't it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director?

__________________________

SATURDAY:

Satan left a message on my answering machine in his grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing his voice made me want to smash the machine with my planner;

however, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up

catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel.

_____________________________

SUNDAY:

I'm having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank GOD that this week is over.

I will also pray that next year my husband will choose a gift for me that is fun

-- like a root canal or a hysterectomy.

I still say if God had wanted me to bend over, he would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds !!!

That is so funny. I watch the people at the gym going around with the trainer and most of the people are way out of shape - their faces are beat red and sweat is pouring down them. After the free hour I had with the trainer I could hardly move my arms a couple of days later and it took two weeks for them to feel normal again.

Hi gang,

Just a quick checkin. I'm home! John left a few hours before me so he could beat traffic. I left at 4:30 and I'm so happy to be home. Yesterday and last night were hell. Wake up every two hours for vitals. Wake up to walk the halls every four hours even in the night. I had good drugs but trying to get up to p was hell and hurt so bad. By this morning I was able to get myself up, use the restroom and go walking by myself so I knew I was on the other side of it. At 1pm had to start fluids for the first time. 1 oz every 15 minutes for two hours. Yuck. Drinking really hurts at first. I guess just imagine a ton of restriction. My first three hours after surgery I just cried because there was an elephant on my chest.

I ended up having three procedures. Liver Biopsy, Sleeve and repair of Hiadle Hernia I didn't even know I had. Go figure.

Tonight I'm walking around the house, happy as a clam until I have to sip. I'm sure tomorrow will be even better!

Nitey nite!

Lee - so good to hear from you! Bonnie was so great at the group - she "reported" to all of us. we all got to see John & Nikki - I got to meet his mom as I was the first one on scene She's great! John was in some pain so i can imagine how you felt/feel.

John - Where are you homie? Hope all is getting better for you - good to know you're home - Thanks LEE for reporting on John!

Ali - you may be next girlfriend - It's hard to explain where the group is because I just walk in same door every time LOL Just ask where the bariatrics group is and they will direct you. Be sure to look for us since I'm so for certain you don't look anything like your avatar so I won't spot you LOL. Ali - we go to lunch after so we'd love for you to join us - don't worry about how you have to order - they are use to us there and we are all "picky" so to speak.

Reggie - are you coming the point west???? PLEASE COME!!

JES - how's that meal automation going?

So my husband got into this car accident and didn't tell me and I tried not to say anything but I just had to let him know that he didn't outsmart me! hahahaha Today I come home and he's gotten me the ol' "I'm sorry" 2 dozen roses and A chocolate BAR! WTF?? He did so well for valentines day - At least it's 85% Extra Dark cocoa so it only has 5 sugars per serving (5 carbs) But I just kicked the habbit!! GRRRRR - I will put it in the freezer - out of site, out of mind!

Lee - so good to hear from you. Every day will be a little better I am sure and you will rest so much better now that you are home. Is your son home yet?

John - let us know how you are.

Tamra - try some of your favorite chicken from that place you like. Make your BBQ pork roast.

CoCo - my PCP told me it was pretty common to feel tired given the low calorie diet we are on. She said you just have to pace yourself and recognize you won't have the same energy all the time.

I am doing well - still walking about 1 hour a day. I am getting a little more hungry now that I have been on Stage 3 for a week. Here is my food

B - 1/2 c ff yogurt w/ 1/4 c unsweetened applesauce (I know I had too much)

L - 1/2 c tuna salad made with FF mayo

D - 1/2 c of moroccan chicken with a little spinach pureed(the Moroccan chicken recipe I tried is really good - you make it in the crock pot - it has carrots, cauliflower, tomatoes, raisins, lentils and lots of spices like cumin, ginger, cinnamon, tumeric and it makes a good sauce - you serve it with couscous.)

- cheat while cleanning the kitchen - a small piece of havariti dill cheese (I chewed it really well).

Hi Ladies,

I’m Sleeved!!!!!!!!!!!!

Left the hospital by 2pm and the ride beat my stomach up so I showered and took a nap. I’m doing well! Thanks for all the well wishes! It was nice meeting Beatrice and seeing Candra, Jes, Ashley and Monique. Hope I’m not leaving anyone out, I was a bit loopy. I was so nice of you guys to stop by! I can’t say how fortunate I am to be part of this group! You ladies rock!

Like Lee said the first 24 hours was hell. If there was an eject or coma button I would have sure pushed it. I had a severe headache and the pain was so strong even with the morphine, maybe I should have pushed the morphine button more but it usually knocked me out for a short time. Some pain is from the need to cut away and cauterized a bunch of adhesions from the first two band attempts. A couple of the scars are larger especially one where they put the stapler in and pulled the stomach out. No Heather I didn’t get to see the removed stomach, gross! You are too funny! Maybe you could ask to have it pickled.

The staff as usual was awesome A+++. Well time to rest I’ll fill you in some more over the next couple days. Nite!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
