Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Recommended Posts

dizlizd - Kaiser Richmond is a Kaiser hospital in Richmond CA that does bariatric surgery - the other two are Kaiser Fremont and Kaiser So San Francisco - patients from N. California have their surgeries at one of the three. Most of us on this thread have had our surgeries in Richmond but anyone is welcome. Where did you have your surgery on Jan 8?

Tamra- I know you will be fine. Everything you are feeling I am very familiar with. Know that it will go quick and in 10 days you will feel normal again but a lot thinner. I tell you this is the BEST thing I could have done for myself and my family. Keep positive thoughts and positive will come your way.

yep its your barium swallow. Your surgery will be at 8 unless they have more than one lap-band tomorrow. I will be there tomorrow but not until 2, and you will be long gone home by then! Just think, in 24 hours from right now you will be banded and on your way home!!! You may even already be home and walking around. It's gonna be fine!!

Yes that is the same time I had my barium swallow scheduled - although I ended up having it at 10:30 am. I believe it is a place holder. So it looks like you will be first up in the morning - if they tell you you need to be there at 6:30 am you will be the 8 am surgery. How exciting.

Hey Ladies & John

Talk about not sleeping - I'm EXHAUSTED - I finally napped yesterday for about 5 hours. This darn Cat has had me all wound up - I am damn near 3K deep for this gal! It cost 250.00 for lab work - UGH! Anyway - as of yesterday there is no more slobbing and she's pottying on a regular basis - she must be 100% cuz I have a few new holes in my hands. She HATES me - LOL - I'm the one that keeps forcing pills down her throat and taking her to see that awful man that keeps sticking her with needles - UGH!

So, back to the not sleeping - that's me but I keep rading the fridge at like 3 am - WTF?

Lee - no binder reviews for me either - just the test that you take out and hand to Liz.

Tam - I was weighed in two gowns. So excited for you - what time do you need to be there?

Heather - I am so friggin done with Brides/Weddings and all that jaz - However, we did pick out new dresses for the wedding so I can wear a bra now - whew! I just had to put my foot down cuz I can't be running around popping out the top of the dress!

Pammie - so sorry I didn't make it this weekend - I was so looking forward to it but my kitty was just awful! She almost had to get an enima (haha). All this for that little ungreateful brat cat!

Jes - sounds like the B-Day weekend was a success!

Dizllizd - Welcome to our humble group! Tell us about your journey...

John - hope you enjoy Cancun!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
