Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Recommended Posts

No Candra I have never even come close to getting stuck - obviously I don't eat hard kernels and I chew really good. I know we are not supposed to eat it - I just look at the calorie content and only eat it every once in a while.

Aloha Ladies!!!

Dozens and dozens of pages to read! Not much on this end just got back from a vacation in Hawaii where the only thing I lost was my luggage. It went to Denver instead on Honolulu. I received it later that night about nine hours late. My luggage gets lost about every year or two so my wife will not pack anything together and I somewhat don't blame her. We had a great turkey day in Hawaii but it was a bit strange being there as the beach was busy and you wouldn't have thought it was Thanksgiving.

Still slowly gaining weight but overall I'm eating better. Afraid to weigh myself as I think I'm up 10-20 pounds since August. Going to see the doc in a few weeks and hoping for a late February Sleeve date.

Sorry Jes I don't know of any Sleeve conversions with Kaiser. My guess is they would do it if you have certain band complications. Unfortunately for most of us eating is satisfying and addicting which is the mental part we must overcome with or without WLS. I think with the band it's harder to overcome the addiction as the physical restriction is different than RNY and Sleeve.

RNY and Sleeve is more evasive but has much more restriction and I believe some of us may benefit from this. I'm on the fence as I think the Sleeve could be a much better weight lose tool but I would have preferred to give the band a try. Oh well its Water under the bridge.

I hope you are all doing well!!

I think there have been alot of unfills at Kaiser lately......maybe that is why. The ER told me I was not the only one to come in for an unfill................

Yep they are withholding fills for sure. I am not gonna ask permission or send a food log. I will bring one with me to see Dr. Baggs and when I lose a bit I will call him back. That is what I am willing to do nothing else at this point. I am sorta burned out on everything with Kaiser right now.

Dr. Baggs said he will give me fills later just to give him a call when I have lost some weight and to complete the food logs. So I don't think I am going back in for awhile. I figure I will go back after the holiday. They are pretty booked up right now. I told him I would probably try to set something up in January sometime

I am debating NOT going on friday. I don't see the point. I really don't wanna drive over there for five minutes. THe only thing would be to check in and get weighed which would not hurt. I also want to get some labs run and ask Dr. Baggs about another barium swallow just to be sure.....I tried to call Kelly today to cancel or at least see if she thinks I need to keep the appointment but haven't gotten a call back yet. I guess I should schedule a January appointment or else Dr. Baggs will get booked up again.......might be my last appointment with them so I have to make sure I get booked.

Riley Dr. Baggs said that he could not see me anymore of give me fills if I lose my insurance. Also the older nurse in the office......cant remember her name said the same thing. That is so confusing. Robin didn't know either last time I asked her but she didn't think you could get fills. I wish I just knew 100%. I called patient services and they didn't know but said theythought I could not keep appointment with no card to bill it too!! SO I really don't know......

Drinking the diet cranberry/water the pomegranite one......very good!!

Riley if I see Dr. Baggs this week I will clarify the fills with him again.

I have a WOF weekend with Donna and I sorta want to forget Kaiser this time around. I can't want to hang out with ya Donna!! My appointment with Dr. Baggs is the same time the program starts...............:-) I would rather just sleep in and have a fun weekend!!

Ok so I need to lose 19 pounds to get under 29 BMI. Why is the last 19 so darn hard?? LOL. If I could just get to 180 than I would be in the safe zone and could decide if I want to lose more or if I am fine. I told Dr. Baggs I might just be fine where I am at and he said they like to see people get to 29BMI or below before they stop giving fills or stop the weight lose efforts..............so I need to get at least another 19 down!!

I think I would be a 12 easy at that point. If I think in terms of five at a time.............LOL!!

B: granola 1/2 230cal

L: veggie hot dogs (2) 260X2=520

D: Granola 1/2 230cal

Rasberries (2 cups) ???? 100-200??

Day 2 is going well so far! I'm feeling my resist muscle growing stronger every day! I'm making ******-***** ***** tonight, and I'm using it as a test. (Yeah, that's been redacted so no one gets a craving.... It's for your own good!). I think the email from the Doc has really reenergized me.

Oh, and I'm going to Oahu next week.

John, that line about all you lost was your luggage- cracking me up. I told the boyfriend and he got worried. He doesn't want our luggage to go anywhere without us, I think we'll try that combined packing thing too.

Hey everyone, welcome back John, glad you had a nice trip.

Tina what is the story about the cranberry juice? Is it some secret cleanse? do tell.

I'm not sure about the 12th weekend, I'll have to let you know. I am planning on walking both this sat & sun if anyone is interested in joining me. Especially you local people. No biggie cuz I'll go by myself too since I need the outdoor exercise. Probably the bridge one day and the pier the other, can even travel to someone else's hood  Anyway let me know.

Ok, I'll be back I have to server up dinner.

Heather - Have fun next week. The weather was great and Waikiki is as nice and fun as ever! Not sure if you have been there before but I have a few suggestions.

North shore was awesome, lots of large waves and surfing competitions going on. Well worth the drive unless you’re staying at Turtle Bay or a home on that side. The Polynesian Cultural Center on the north shore has a brand new night show (Ha Breath of Life) that was great!

Cheap drinks at Hale Koa Hotel on Fort DeRussy which is next to the Hilton Hawaiian village Waikiki. Hale Koa is a military hotel but many don’t know the ocean front bar is open to the public and offers reasonable priced food and drinks.< /span>

I’m not into shopping but a great place to go is the Aloha stadium swap meet. Great bargains and souvenirs. http://www.alohastadiumswapmeet.net/

Dukes, Roys, Tikki’s, and the Yard House all great places to eat hence the only think I lost comment…

Enjoy the trip!

Hi All - Just checking in. Heard from Liz on Tuesday and got my surgery date - it is Jan 26th Woo Hoo! I am excited! (Not as freaked out as I thought I would be - nice surprise.)

Went to Kaiser Richmond support group tonight and it was a good meeting, even though Bev didn't come again! (Sick in Oct - not sure what the deal was tonight.) The pre-ops met and there was a lot of good talk about fears and people's concerns about which surgery. Then back with the post-ops and it was very supportive. Nothing like what Heather was saying about the EG group. Everyone was very supportive because we all share the same issues and all the posts kept saying they were so grateful to those that supported them and inspired them when they started that they wanted to pay if forward and give back. Also frank discussion about complications and challenges. It was a good meeting.

Lee - it was nice to meet you tonight!

Heather - you are rockin on the exercise! So excited for you. You might become Miss Jane Jr.!

Annalyn - glad you are back. Hang in; I know it is hard but it will happen and you are so worth it. You are so close, don't give up. I need a surgery buddy like Candra and Jewel. You can do it!

Candra - you are so right! Life and stress just are what they are and eating really doesn't change it - just adds the lbs and the bad feeling. Need to reprogram.

Chris - boys are the best (I have 2) - there is nothing like the way a boy loves his mom! Congratulations. (Neat name.)

Donna - way to go on walking! (I could do the same thing come to think of it when I get my nails done!) Right now the same meeting that Jane and I went to last month is on the 12th, but I could come after that or am also available on the 13th.

Liz and Nicolie - Hi - you both sound like you are doing great. (the banana bread sound dangerous but good!)

John and Heather - I so miss Hawaii - I am so jealous. Heather, I wish I could fit in your suitcase - well, maybe next year when I lose 100 lbs!!!

Jane (just realized your initials are JR) - missed you last night. How did your talk go at the Kaiser meeting? How are things on eHarm?

Ok - Good night ladies. Sweet dreams!

We're renting a house in Kailua, apparently 2 1/2 blocks from the beach. I'll get my exercise in walking to the beach and then walking back to get some shade. lol. I am hoping to do a lot of active stuff.

Oh, and for some reason after dinner tonight I threw the plan out the window. I decided not to make the junk food I was going to take to work. Too dangerous! Ugh. I was doing so well too!

I have done really good on the 1200 cal diet and am proud of myself despite going through hard times.

I am so looking forward to the holidays and being with those that love me for me and support me no matter what. My brother comes home from the Navy for the holidays and I cant wait!!!!! Keep on truckin.

Liz - great job on the 1200 cal. I really think it works, but agree it isn't always easy. I am really limiting my non-veggie/fruit carbs and it seems to really work. How are you doing with exercise? I am struggling but planning to get on track again tomorrow with that.

The exercise is hard to get in. I have done well with walking the treadmill and stuff. I have a bad back and have to be careful. I have had Migraines for a couple days now and feel like I am at the end of the headache cycle... I hope!!!! That holds me back but I went to the gym and did the treadmill while having a lighter Migraine and walked.... wanted to vomit but I did it!!!! I dont have a workout partner so its tuff . But I have talked to a friend recently who is going to work out with me so I hope we can kick eachothers butts into gear..lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
