Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to thank you all for writing about how you came to decide on the LB. I appreciate all the input as I'm just starting on this journey. I have a lot to learn and to think about. I think that the time that it will take to lose weight before surgery will be a great opportunity for me to think about everything.

Do you all update your signature when you have official weigh-ins at Kaiser?

Have fun on Saturday everyone!

Heather- I am sorry about what happen to you but if you think you are doing well keep up the good work and the scale will show you that next week. You have done such a good job so far!!

Pat- I was really scared about getting the weight loss surgery and to me LAP-BAND®® made sense. I don't mind doing the fills because I feel like that keeps me on track but also I am only turning 30 and the thought of never having even a bite of something with sugar because of dumping syndrome was not OK. I feel like if something goes wrong i can have band removed but nothing can be done about what the changes your body goes through with the RYN. I feel like the work to loss weight might be harder but I am so determined to lose the weight. I don't know how to post a ticker but here are my updates

orientation 7/27/09- 257lbs

goal weight-235 lbs

surgery date 10/27/09-227lbs

current weight- 212 lbs

Hope to be in onderland soon!!!!

I never even thought of having RNY. I know some people like it for the "effortless" weight loss but I'm young and I'm going to need to eat a certain way forever. Forever is a long time! I want to be able to have a slice of cake at my wedding, I want to be able to have an unfill when I get pregnant so I can provide proper nutrition for my child. I don't want to be malnourished on purpose. I need help to keep from eating too much so I need restriction, but I don't need or want the malabsorption. I also really like the thought of going in for fills. Some people think it's too much work and a pain to go get fills, but I know I need to check in with my surgeon ever time and I can really work the program this way. Right now I've basically been turned loose until I reach my goal weight and I don't like this. If I could have done it on my own I wouldn't have needed WLS. The fills and nutrition appts and all of that are something I look forward to, and I don't mind driving to Richmond. It is far but I'd driver farther for a program like this. I feels so fortunate to be able to go to a center for excelence.

Hey everyone! I did really well today. I did not deviate to bad.

B-2 scrambled eggs

S-dry fried ribs from this hole in the wall Chinese place in Hilltop Mall in Richmond.... Opps! Wrong texture but...I can tolerate textures other than mushies...

L-1/4 cup Clam chowder Soup

D-1 turkey burger patty and a sprinkling of fresh cut french fries made my my honey..... Opps again. But not a regular portion

S-just now...I got real hungary...I just ate 1/2 of a leftover turkey patty.

I think that's good for me....I also e-mailed Dr. Fisher to ask him for a fill. I think I am healing well and getting really hungary...I feel no restriction. I have lost 10lbs and am ready for some more.....

See you all on Saturday....I can't wait........

AudsMom-I love the holiday pics of you and your daughter. How sweet??? Shes a cutie. :)

Hi all, looking to see who is online....Hi Jes, Lee, Tamra, roseyyyd1......

Nighty, night!!!

Am planning on Sat barring any hold ups...sure will miss our MIA's!!! Chat soon, Happy Friday! By the way, Heather...my exact reasons 2, for doing this, of course my babies are born, but still more life to come, and believing for the best is yet to be...even healthy! Make it a habit to tell people thank you. To express your appreciation, sincerely and without the expectation of anything in return. Truly appreciate those around you, and you'll soon find many others around you. Truly appreciate life, and you'll find that you have more of it.

OMG - I did it! I am below my surgery goal weight! Weighed in at Kaiser this am at 233! That is 22 lbs from 9/13 to 11/13 - 9 weeks. I am calling Liz today for the appt! I really didn't expect it even though my scale showed me below goal. (I guess freezing my butt off with a little tee shirt and cotton pants and no food/water worked!!!)

Riley and Monique - thanks for the confirmation on why LB vs RNY and understanding my feelings. Can't wait to see you.

Nicole - you and Auds are beautiful; you look fantastic!

Well need to get back to work. Will check back later!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
