Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone - looking forward to Sat to meet some of you. I need the meeting! I have been kind of down in the dumps - lots of stress (I am broken out in a rash - it happens when I get really stressed). I know some of it is a lot of work related problems, but I have been kind of unsettled since that last Kaiser Rich meeting with all the RNY folks and saying they didn't want to deal with the fills etc. Since some of you are struggling with fills I have been having second thoughts. So just really stressed, but I've been sticking to the 1200 even though I've had a ton of head/stress hunger.

Riley, you need to share what you are learning in your emotional eating class.

I go into to Kaiser for an offical weigh in tomorrow. I'm not eating or drinking before I go because I want a good number. On my scale I am at surgery goal but know it will be higher there, just hoping it isn't too much higher.

Candra I am so bummed you won't be there, I really wanted to meet you and I know you could make me laugh!

Riley I'll PM you to see how we can work out the driving.

Hi all just checking in,

My bestfriend and I are thinking about attempting the 7 day cabbage Soup diet LOL she wants to loose 15 lbs and apparently you do on it, so I said wth if I can do 1200 cal why not try this with her, so starting tomorrow we will see LOL...I love challenges so this will be fun....and hey if I loose 10 lbs or so on it, I will be close to goal LOL our secret!!

As for SAT I am on the maybe right now; Brianna might be meeting up with her friend at the park that morning, but If I am home in time I will jump right over the bridge.

Hope you all are doing ok!!

Oh and btw, a quick thought of changing to the RNY went thru my mind, but my friend brought me back away from that....LOL

Pat~I know exactly how you feel. I have been there. We were having some issues at work that I am convinced caused some of my hair to fall out! Problems are getting solved now. Hang in there....it does get better.

As for having second thoughts....I had second thoughts too. I started at 255lbs, lost a tiny bit....down to 242lbs...., got pregnant, had the baby, after the baby I got down to 238lbs or so....Then people and the negative talk started... "Why are you going to do that?", "Can't you just lose the weight by exercising and watching what you eat?", "Are you sure you want to have a plastic/port, etc... inside your body?"...And many more questions from both knowledgeable and not people....

I also had second thoughts and believed God was sending me a sign.... My original banding date was 9/30. Liz called me one day and had to reschedule it to 10/14! I was like, "Oh, shit! What if I gain weight???" Then the self-sabotaging behaviors started.... I started eating anything I wanted....Not overboard but nevertheless, I paid little attention to what I was eating. I felt like I could eat like my skinny friends!!!! Ironically, I continued to lose....Then Liz called me AGAIN!!!! AND RESCHEDULED ME AGAIN.... October 20th. I was able to keep this date and HERE I AM!!!

I almost could not stand it! I tried to keep my decisions to myself for a long time...But we you get to know me....You will see, I can't hold Water....Especially when it's something I am passionate about.

Anyway, I am truly happy that I did not listen to those individuals. I love my band and the restriction. I am losing weight and can now fit into regular sized clothes. I have not fit into REGULAR SIZED CLOTHES since college. Even then, I was an extra-large. I can fit into larges and OMG....I even purchased a MEDIUM SWEAT PANTS! I am still in shock...And to think I am going to get even smaller.

On the day of my surgery, I weighed 219.5lbs. I just had an PCP appt on Monday and Kaiser's scale said I am 209.4lbs....I am looking forward to ONDERLAND!!!! Here I come!!!

I CAN NOT WAIT TO MEET YOU AND THE REST OF THE CREW ON SATURDAY! KEEP THE FAITH, YOU CAN DO IT!

Howdy-ho all! Happy friday eve :-)

Pat - the need to come back all of the time for fills is, to my (somewhat feeble) mind, one of the BEST reasons to get a band vs. RNY. The surgery itself is the easy part: the work comes after. When you have to go for a fill every 4-6 weeks - like you do with Dr. Baggs - you have a whole nuther level of accountability that RNYers don't get close to. I was banded at the end of February. I have been back 6 more times (5 of them for fills and nutrition counseling!) since then, and am going again in another 5 weeks. I AM ACCOUNTABLE. I have to spend an hour with Robin, and we are going to be reviewing my food logs - super! I guess I'd better do them then, huh! And of course we will be reviewing my weight - gee I guess I'd better work on that too then, huh? It is a built-in "I can't fail with all of this support" system, and you know me - it is about support support support!!! Besides, you always lose weight after a fill - so you have that to look forward to - and it allows your doc to totally customize your WLS for you!! I mean come on, I am getting .25 cc fills now, and he gives me one every time I ask. Yeah it is a 1-hour drive down there, but so what? It is SO SO SO worth it! Come with me to my next fill appointment and you can watch - it is NOTHING - and I love having this port because it means that I won't gain the weight back! No RNYer can say that :-)

Michelle, Sherry, Susan and I were all in the head hunger class that just ended last night, and will be bringing the curriculum to the Tuesday night group, so you will get it for sure! Bonnie is doing another session that starts in January, and a bunch of us are signing up for that one as well. I think it is going to be on Tuesday nights for 1.5 hours. I need the class to last like 16 weeks instead of 4 weeks, so I am just going to keep taking it! You will LOVE Bonnie too :-)

K I am @ work so I'd better go look like it! TTFN

Maria- Of course you can ride with us. Just let Pam or I know!

Ok, so I had another weight check appt today. I gained about 5 lbs in the last 2 weeks. I couldn't believe it. I've been exercising more but I gained! I was super upset, had myself a little cry when I got home, but the boyfriend and I are trying harder. I'm just so disappointed in myself. I feel like I let other people down, and I don't get it. I don't feel like I've just eaten everything I've wanted, but I probably have. So upsetting.

Can't wait to see you all Saturday!

Just checking in, I haven't posted in a few days, I'm still reading up on all of your previuos post to get more information on the LB. I am absolutly sure that I want the LB! I am also getting anxious for my orientation  I have been trying to maintain my 240 weight since I always fluctuate about 5 lbs both ways! I weigh myself yesterday at my grandma's house and it said 245  I want to make sure that I qualify for surgery, but gosh I sure am ready to lose weight!!!!!!! These last 10 days before orientation are gona kill me! :tt2: Anyhoo, I know that my orientation is in Fremont, but it's ok that I tag along with you all, right? I still have not found anyone on this sight that has been banded by Fremont yet and you all seems so full of suport and knowledge!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
