Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Recommended Posts

Boy my band is tight today - hopefully it is just because I got the fill yesterday. I ate a applesauce cup - took me an hour to eat it as I would stop after each bite. Boy I had the gurgles. Then when I was done, the last few bites came back up. Now how does someone pb on applesauce? It should go right through the band. So I am definitely going to be careful the next few days to make sure that .5 cc isn't causing problems. Dr. Im should have just put my 7 cc back in and told me I had 7.5 cc - psychologically I would have thought I had more.

Riley - where are you?

Heather and Marquint - are you planning on going to the Elk Grove support meeting on the 14th? I think it starts at 7 pm. I will go if you go. I have been once before a long time ago and at that time I was the only lapband person. I won't be able to stay until 9 pm though as it is a school night.

Hello all just wanted to to introduce myself. My name is Emily I was banded at Kaiser SSF on May 21st. WL has been slow but at least its going down. I need to step up my exercise. I have 6.5 cc in a the 14cc band. I am just starting to get some restriction and am hoping that I'm within a fill of my "sweet spot".

Nice to meet ya'll :w00t:

Hi Emily! Great to see you here. Just one question cuz i'm not the sharpest tool in the shed... You say you got banded on May 21st... is that of this year, 2009? I ask because your join date says Mar "2006" ...? You have a 14cc band? I thought the bands Kaiser uses is a 10cc Band?? I know you said SSF but Doc Fisher says ALL california Kaisers have the same exact contracts and equipment. I would like a 14cc band! I think I'm gonna need 14cc's to feel full LOL. I'm getting banded on Monday!

Hello Beautiful People! OH MI GOSH BECKY!! Candra, Jes you 2 are soooo CLOSE!! I'm soo excited for the both of you!! I'm doin the booty shakin dance in honor of you 2!!! LOL!!

Well, I kinda had a irritating moment.. I spoke to one of my friends that I hadn't seen in awhile and I told her about what I've decided to do... And she just gave me this "what the hell?!" attitude. I was confused and hurt because for me- choosing to do this surgery ENDS my battle with Diabetes (amongst other things I have to go thru being an overweight person). Which is a WONDERFUL thing. I'm just hurt because all her statements where about am I sure I want to do this.. This is just an easy way out. I really don't need this... yada yada yada..

I told her THIS IS NO WHERE NEAR EASY. I wanted to explain what we really have to go thru and the SACRAFICES that we have to make in order to do this.. I guess It just made me sad, because She didn't see it the way I did.. and for her to be my friend.... :w00t:... Anyways.. oh wells.. it doesn't change what I want.. Just disappoints me that some people don't want to open their minds.

I'm excited about my appointment with Dr. Park tomorrow.. I'm READY!!!

Analynn - I'm booty shakin with you! You're right behind us! Don't even tripp of your so called friend. People who haven't made this decision in life will never see it the way we do. One of my oldest friends had RNY and went thru all the same stuff with her peeps so that's why I decided not to tell anybody but the few hundred people that read this site and my husband! Keep us posted on your visit with Dr. Park - can't wait to find out how much weight she wants you to lose! This is where it really begins!

nice to see we have some new friends - and a couple of guests. I don't think any of us are telling secrets or things we worry about others seeing - it is the internet after all. Hi Robin and Liz.

I gave in and got a non fat frozen yogurt at costco for lunch - is 250 cal and 7 g Protein. After the episode with the applesauce I wasn't up to trying my sugar free pudding at work. I'll have Soup for dinner and see how it goes. I've had 16 oz of Water and need to get going on that. It is hard when you can't chug it.

Tomorrow is another furlough Friday for me - going to spend the morning helping in my daughter's class and then it's parent lunch day for my 8th grader so I'll bring him something yummy and I'll have soup.

I'm excited for Candra and Jess - it's almost here.

Hi ladies!

Down another 2 overnight, so finally within 2 lbs. of where I was last week! Ay caramba . . . still pee-ing like a racehorse, can't stop and I have a VERY contentious public hearing in an hour that I am going to have to stay in the room for what will probably be 3 hours . . oh boy.

Well I was getting back to my house noticing the pretty color of the leaves and the flowers and all this morning, and I thought to myself, gee this is how I used to feel right before I started with the TOM, got into the house and guess what?? Yes TOM! I have not done that since Mirena a couple of years ago. Never been so happy to get it, I have really been freaked about WHY I gained so much Water weight so fast! This explains at least part of it!

OK gopt to go eat my Quorn "chicken" so I can do my meeting all afternoon - hi to the newbies, hugs to you oldies - Candra I was 1st thing Monday monring for my band too, I think it's the best time! As long as they were not on call all weekend of course, LOL

Well Anna, I have Dr Park, I like her; direct, to the point and very sweet.

Let's see she asked what surgery you are intrested in and then explains the band process very thouroughly (sp) even drew pictures. then she put me up on the table and looked at my tummy, pushed & poked and then she told me what weight I needed to be at. I'm sure something else happend but you know how it is at Kaiser in and out you barley remember. I think it's a good idea to write your questions down in advance just in case.

My surgeon was Dr. Li he was very businesslike. I told him what surgery I wanted and he went over the pros and cons and told me what next step he's like me to take (blood work lose more weight etc)

Candra - I live in Roseville and work at Beale AFB. I’d love to come to a support group but I’m not sure I want to attend something with a large group. Maybe one of your small sessions someday would work. I can’t login to this site at work so I would show up as a guest lurker…

John, have you gone to the support group at Sutter Roseville? I heard it's the 3rd Saturday of the month. Just curious if it's a good meeting.

Our Kaiser Point West (Arden) meeting is great, we have a fantastic clothing exchange each month and we separate into band/rny groups. That's the best part, talking with our banded buddies!

Oh and Candra, I'm finally bringing in my old jeans to the clothing exchange, they were a little big 20 lbs ago, I haven't even tried to wear them in weeks. You must be proud! lol.

Oh, and some fantastic news. I tried on my mini-goal dress, and it fits so much better already! It's the dress I bought when I was 17, and I want to be able to wear it when we go to Hawaii this December. It's kinda wierd thinking my dress is now 8 years old... yikes... I promise, it's still cute.

OK!!! I frickin' love Dr. Baggs!!!! I had my appt this afternoon and he put back----2cc's in my band! I'm back up to 6.5 cc's and can definitely feel the funnel feeling when drinking Water. He said since I'm preggo it's okay to have more full liquids so I'm eating runny cream of wheat right now. I was so hungry and nauseous!

He said I don't have to have any taken out (I might even get another little fill next month) unless I'm losing too much weight or PB'ing too much. Baby first obviously, so I'm not expecting too much weight loss...I'd be happy to lose the few that I've gained in the last couple weeks and then to maintain until I'm further on in my pregnancy.

OH! And guess where my appt is next month? VACAVILLE! YAYAYAYAY!!! I'm so happy he's gonna be doing fills there. I told him I had heard rumors but didn't want to be nosy and ask him but that I'm so happy to hear it's true. I told him I'd still go to Richmond or Pinole to see him if the person at Vacaville wasn't him. I definitely want him to do my fills!

So for the girls that have Dr. Fisher!!! Know that he's WAY more conservative than Dr. Baggs and be prepared for that in the way of fills, unfills and pregnancy. Dr. Baggs said that they all have very different opinions on pregnancy with the Lapband. I like his view MUCH better than Dr. Fisher!

thanks Pammie - I'm excited too!

Riley Jane, I'm not so sure that I'm the first thing monday morning - I hafta call tomorrow and find out but I do know that they scheduled my barium swallow for 11:30 so that's a good sign. I haven't had my TOM in about 3 years - did I mention that I love my depo shot!

Heather I am so so proud but guess what - at the rate you're going, that dress just might me a little too big by December - hope you got a back up dress LOL.

Ah, Johnny boy - you're the lurker LOL To be honest, the Sacramento support group isn't as big as you think - it's mostly us girls on this thread - there was another guy there last time and Rosie who NEVER LOGS ON - grr. and bout maybe 10 RNY people. But you'd be sitting in our group - should you decide to come, let us know and we can track you down and make you sit wtih us. The best part is that we usually go to mimi's for lunch afterwards. It truely does make a difference to have the support - Like AA hahaha.

Nicole, Nicole, where for art thou, Nicole? How are you feeling.

Reggie, my Cinderella - what's the scoup ? Are you locked in your tower? do you need me to come rescue you? I know where you live and, although it may take me an hour to get there, just say the word girlfriend.

Tamra - you are so lucky I don't know where you live!

TeenaMarie - what is your middle name anyway - check in with us so we know what's going on.

Christine, how's that belly??? Morning yuckyness gone yet?

Emily - how bout you? You up for the sacramento group

If you all come I promise to show you my freshly cut flesh... I will be, what, 12 days post op and Jes will be 10~

Jes, how are you my little band buddy - still having the moments of pause?? I haven't had one all day, well, except for now cuz I'm talking about it LOL. Just think how cute we'll be next summer by the pool - that's how i get past the pause. I really need to get my feet done but don't want to waste the money since I'd hafta take the polish right back off! I'm thinkin I can do it Monday afternoon while I'm still on drugs LOL. I don't think the anti nausia meds do any good so i just may pass - don't need to wast another 10 bucks on pills.

As they say in the pen "3 days and a wake up!"

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
