Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Recommended Posts

I absolutely can't do soft tortillas either - doesn't matter if they are flour or wheat - it is their consistency. I made a mini taco salad the other night - 1/4 c ground beef, 1/4 c cheddar cheese, salsa, a dab of sour cream and about 6 tortilla chips. It was yummy and went down fine. I know that is too many tortilla chips. I am making lasagna tomorrow for a friend from work and his girlfriend. He is going to seal any cracks on my RV roof for me and in return I am going to feed them. I will have a tiny piece. I make it with cottage cheese instead of ricotta and also use ground beef. They know I have a lapband so it won't be a big deal if I eat a mini piece.

Heather you heard anything? I have heard nothing and today is Friday. I did hear they were going to try and restore some money to public safety yesterday but can't get a straight answer on what that means. Waiting games suck!!

I am doing liquids only today. I can feel my band and I think getting sick last night made my stomach swell. Worried about slipping. I serious have to figure out what foods don't work before I get sick...........at least my list of absolutely not is growing so I know some of what to avoid. Just this trial and error stuff worries me. I am getting out my Kaiser binder again today and sticking strictly to that..............but even some of what is on that won't work for me.

Still mourning broccoli but at least I have salads.............weird how this band works!!

Hi ladies!

glad you all had fun at lunch - so sorry I missed it! Wish we could pick a saturday or a sunday brunch to all meet up when everybody can make.

This head hunger thing has got to go!

Christy, great to hear from you and I look forward to your blog- i'm not banded yet but only have 6lbs to go to surgery goal weight - then the tests, blah blah blah.

Psych session today went well - apparently, I"m sane- LOL

This is hard, I am struggling. Phoey! Losing inches but can't get back to one-derland no matter what I freakin' do. I PB still at very unexpected times, on unexpected stuff! Mornings I'm pretty tight. Afternoons I can eat pretty good . . . but early evening, I am BAD to PB. Especially after excercise, and swimming seems to be the worst. Is that WEIRD or what?? Maybe it's from being so relaxed after sitting in the hot tub after being in the cold pool . . . . So, I find myself eating "slippery" stuff so it won't get stuck and I won't PB. . . . and of course I am hungry again in 2 hours.

Here is what I am finding: in order to both "feel" full after eating and to not get hungry again too soon, I do NOT eat my most dense/dry food ti "sit above the band" first. I will eat some of my Protein (but not dry) first (for example, the chicken from a chicken ceasar salad I will dip each bite in my (no calorie) dressing), followed by stuff that I know will go down and provide some "full" (lettuce, spinach, veggies, usually), followed by more, drier protein to fill the pouch. Then "both" of my stomachs are full, I actually feel full, and I stay full for 4-5 hours. But if I try to fill my pouch on just dry protein, I will PB because something's gonna get stuck. And if I eat the nice vegies first then I'm breaking the protein first rule. grrr!

Tina, maybe when we get more of a fill so that the hole is smaller, less will get stuck??

Wish I could have been there yesterday to see my girls! I'm glad you had fun :-)

Hey ladies!!!

Ok had my first fill today!!! Not bad......Dr.Baggs said I had 3cc at surgery so he gave me 1 more...really only 1.......well we will see......

I will not be at the group fill on the 25th he said it is to soon after this one...however they do have me scheduled for my second fill on July 23rd as a group at panole....

Tina.....I too am learning what works and what doesn't.....so I know rice is a no no...well I know why...every time I have had even a little I get nauseas...also any type of bread or Pasta makes me the same...unless its like melba toast and I seem to do ok with that.....

I work for private...but we run with city......it's acctually my husband who is having problems with some of our co workers who don't know what they are talknig about...however the stress of it I notice myself telling myself its ok to eat cause I'm stressed!!! YUCK!!! I hate that!!!

I also feel like this band is her for the ride.....I'stayed at 207 for like 3 weeks.......we will see what happens now with my fill!!!!

How are you Reggie???? How are you feeling? Hows the weightloss....

I miss you all so much so bummed I couldn't make it to lunch......but I will be there on the 27th Kaiser!!!!

Hey candy so is it the 23 or the 27th. I need to get the day off work!!

I think I will be at the group fill in July too but we will see what Dr. Baggs says.

I got 2cc's and 3 at surgery. Pretty tight fill the first week. So weird how Dr. Baggs decides how much. I sorta wonder if it has to do with pressure during the fill.......I know Riley has been moving slowly but she seems to have the same restriction as me. Everyone is different.

We weill do lunch again in a couple of weeks!! We decided we like BJ's...........lots of choices.

I hope everyone is doing well and has a great weekend.

Donna loving the book and I got that new one you have as well. I plan to read it this weekend. Problem is I know my triggers and I know I emotionally eat..........stress and boredom..........but stopping it still hard!!

After walking 9000 today I find the head hunger not as bad. Or maybe I just don't want to mess that up..........but I am walking stiff. I am an exercise wimp I fear!!

Melba toast.........great idea. I won't touch bread after the last PB'ing incident last night. But I can eat croutons..........I joke that is my bread when I get a salad!! But I think maybe I could do melba toast great, great, great idea!!

Ok ladies I threw out a bag of chips today. I had to dump alot of trash on them so I would not be tempted to eat them........left overs from nachos my daughter and her friend made..........I started to nibble a few and figured they had to go and quick.

Made chili today added protien powder, soy meat a can of tomatoes, kidney beans..............full of protien and than ate them with tofu hot dogs.............talk about protien!! I got it today for sure...........

Sadly more lost hair today............I can tell my hair is thinner I can feel it. Oh well......it will grow back!1

I had the best morning. After seeing my scale and realizing that I have actually lost 30 lbs (omg!) I was on cloud 9 all morning. I got to work and my coworker came up to me and whispered "Have you been losing weight?" I said that I have and she said "I can tell, good for you!". Let me just tell you how that just made my day. With all the work stress it's really hard to stick to the pre-op diet. I can handle day-to-day stress, but this layoff stuff is like nothing I've experienced before. But I'm still happy. I got home and told the boyfriend about my coworker and he said his best friend noticed I've lost weight too. I think people noticing is motivating me when I'm slipping.

I received an email warning me that I am at risk for layoff. I've been expecting it, but it's still a bummer. There hasn't been any definates yet but I've already applied for another job and I'll keep looking. But, if I get laid off then I can spend my days in the gym and going to school. I'll have these next 50 lbs gone in no time!

Good for you Heather.

Today was my day off but I usually work overtime to help other social workers out. Guess what they called me at home today and told me not to come in to take the day off. I guess the overtime is over. Yes the work needs to be done and yes state regulations won't be met. But at this point it is all about money. Really strange I don't know what it means........

Heather I won't know until monday if I got an email since I was not at work today. I am watching the Board of Supervisors meeting right now and it is grim but it does look like Sheriffs might get some of the funding back.........

Girl I so feel your stress!!

Good Morning Ya'll!

Go, Tina, with your 9000 steps! I've been slacking. I had this sucky cold that has now turned into a sinus infection so I haven't been walking - can't breathe. We did start again this morning since my breathing has gotten better but, boy, after not walking at all for 3 days it's like starting from the beginning where it seems so so hard again. Only 3 days!

I really hate to exercise and I think I'd just rather not eat at all! Unrealistic, I know, but a girl can dream.

Riley, don't worry about one-derland! You'll get there-you're just taking the scenic route - LOL. Hope you feel better soon!

I have been so desperate to get to my surgery weight that I've cut out ALL carbs completely - I got those little glad containers from safeway - the 1/2 cup sized ones - and I prepare 4, 1/2 cup servings of Protein (tuna, chicken or egg salad with sugar free mayo) and I just eat 1 of those every 4 hours (8,12,4,8) and drink 3L of Water (crystal light) a day. I've lost 8lbs since June 3rd! - 6 to go!! Amazing thing is I'm less hungry now than ever. The first 2 days was oh so hard but it's easy now! Tomorrow I will start to add some low carb veggies - salad greens.

YOU ROCK HEATHER! 30lbs is so fantastic - you should put up pictures - I hope you took your measurements. I did the day of orientation and i can't tell you how depressing that was! Have you had your phych appt yet? I saw Dr. Schnurr yesterday and she said "you're not typical of the people I usually see". Really don't know what she meant by that but I guess it wasn't too bad because she passed me! If you haven't had it yet don't worry about it - the questions are really simple.

Well, I'm off to get my feet done!

Hey Candra wow your doing great!!

I also have the 1/2 cup bowls. Love them. I make lentils at the beginning of the week and and than fill them up to 1/3 cup and they are just easy to grab out of the fridge at night when I get home. Makes it easier not to snack that way...........

I am reading some books today and than headed out to the gym later.........might go see a movie tonight.

Heather 30 pounds really is alot!! I am impressed.

Oh Candra Dr. Schurr told me I was borning, normal but boring!! I also didn't know how to take that but she passed me...........she asked me who the president was and I laughed and asked why she didn't know that!! She told me she was the asking the questions not me!! I do those psych evals at the time at work so I gave her a hard time. But in the end she made me cooperate to pass. I liked her. We talked about about raising teenager and eating issues with teens..........very smart woman!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
