I was banded in April 2008. So far I've lost about 35-37lbs. Slow is what I was wanting, 'cause I don't want to have further surgery for loose skin. I have totally lost all motivation. I am tight enough that if I eat to fast or to much I feel it. But I'm drinking a little with some of my meals and I know that's against what we're suppose to do. I try to make good food choices. I also joined Curves, but life happened and I don't have a car right now so I don't go as often as I'd like. Guess I just needed to vent/confess...:cursing:

Hi Katie!

I was banded in May and have lost about 30 pounds. How did you do over Thanksgiving? I went to Florida for 9 days and didn't gain any weight over the holiday!! Yipee - that was a first!! Sometimes it's those little victories that are the best!!

I joined Curves too, but am totally unmotivated to go!! Maybe we can urge each other to go exercise!! Even though you are in Texas and I am in California, we can pretend that we are exercising together!!

I came back with a cold, so I am hoping to feel better by Thursday and go to Curves then. How about you? Let's make it our goal to each go to Curves at least once this week! sound good to you?

"Talk" to you soon!

Terri

If I can suggest that you log into this site daily (several times if needed) for support and encouragement. I believe while reading through the posts you will find others are experiencing the same thing (there's quite a few of us who lose our way but quickly motivate ourselves to get back on track). That's why you'll hear it a 1000 times over - the band isn't the magic bullet it is a tool that works if we work it (the RNY is the drastic magic bullet but think of the consequences?) That's one reasons I am glad (not at the time) that my dr and insurance company forced me to attend a 3 month nutrition class. If not Curves maybe Weight Watchers at Work will work for you? Anything that will help you w/ portion constrol and support??? If nothing else go back to square one with measuring/journaling your food choices. I don't want to sound like I'm preaching because most of us have been where you are - just hope it helps you be encouraged and motivated.

FIRST, let me congratulate you on speaking-up/venting/

confessing. I know that is hard to do especially to a website full of sucessful experts. I think admitting the problem is the start to resolving it. I like your attitude, I think you'll move on and loose more. Good luck! :smile2:

Hi Katie--and fellow Texan!!

I was banded in March 08. Did great until August when I started getting hungry, eating more, and staying the same, not losing. I had lost about 60 pounds at that point. I went and started getting fills again in Sept. I have had three fills now and I am back to where I was the early months after surgery, not hungry, getting full after a small amount, and losing again. It did not occur to me (dumb) that losing weight means the band may get loose so you need to start fills again. This remains a learning experience as you go along. I just joined a gym also and think that will help me stay motivated plus feel better. I hate to go, but once I do I can't believe how good I feel. Hopefully, eventually, that feeling will make me look forward to going a little more. Hang in there, this is so worth the journey!!!

Hi Katie,

I'm glad you're venting because we "all" feel that way at one time or another. One thing that I've continued to do that really helps me is measuring my food. No I don't get the measuring cup out - but I use the one cup glad containers, and fill them 1/2 to 3/4 depending on what I'm eating. As I live alone, it really works well - I plan my meals and cook on the weekends - and always have things in the freezer. My surg was 6/24/08 and I've lost 43 as of this morning. The last month I've been stuck, and for the last 3 days have pushed the exercise - staying on the eliptical for an hour. It's worked as I dropped a pound this morning. Maybe if you can't get to curves - you could take a nice long walk every day. I also agree that this site works wonders - I spend my lunch hour every day eating slow and reading about others experiences.

Good Luck

Sharon

Katie,

I know you like drinks with your food... I did too. but until I realized I couldn't do that, my progress was really inhibited. I changed my actions and now I don't even think about drinking with my meals... no missing it at all. It is just the way I am now. Kick the drinking, even a little, with your food. You'll notice a HUGE difference.

Stay positive!

with regard to exercise, I always sort of liked it, and would get excited when I would join a gym. But I always found time and life got in my way and I just wouldnt go.

I cant stress how important it was to my success this time (have been exercising 4 to 5 times a week for 3 years now!) to have a home option. I chose running as my main exercise - but it could be Curves - but I also have an indoor backup for bad weather. Now it could be as simple as a few DVD's but I do circuits with my treadmill and weights. But the point is, there is never an excuse for me not to do something - weather, time etc. I can get a good workout at home in 30 minutes.

Finding a backup if you cant get to the gym can keep you on the exercise straight and narrow.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
