Lap Band - Mexico

Recommended Posts

Has anyone who lives in the U.S. had the Lap Band surgery performed in Mexico? If so, how do you feel about the surgeons in Mexico, would you recommend, whom would you recommend? I appreciate all input.

Many of us here had surgery in Mexico. A place to start would be to click on the ads to the right. Call them and ask a lot of questions and see what feels right to you.

Yes, there are a large proportion of members here who have had surgery in Mexico. I'd do a ton of research about specific doctors... There is a thread about researching Mexico doctors on this site, and that is a good place to start.

There are a lot of ads on this website and I do NOT agree that clicking these ads is a good place to start. The previous poster has stated that you should go with what 'feels right to you.' Medical decisions should NOT be made on 'warm fuzzy feelings' that you get from websites, banner ads, and phone calls to patient coordinators who are PAID to solicit your business. Do your homework independently. DO your homework... Don't choose a doctor because they have a good price, or because the Flash on their website is pretty, or because you get a private message from someone on this board who tells you "They got surgery in Mexico and their doctor is great and you won't be disappointed.' There are a lot of people who have made their decisions like this, and have ended up with complications, and severely maimed because they did not ask the right questions.

Hope that helps.

I agree with you. I guess what I meant to say is after asking a LOT of questions and if you feel good about the answers, etc. then it's a good place to start.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
