How long did you wait until you went back to work

Recommended Posts

Met with my doctor's office to set my surgery date. My doctor does not want me to go back to work for two weeks after surgery. Due to the nature of my job, there is no way I can miss two weeks of work. Most of work involves sitting at my desk with leading meetings for two hours twice a week.

How long did you all wait to get back to work?

Please note, becuase circumstances at work, I CAN NOT TAKE 2 WEEKS OFF, so please do not tell me to just go ahead and take it off. I have already arranged to just work 2 days a week. That is all I could get.

Thanks.

I believe you would cringe if I told you how long I took off work. I will say this, if you go back to work that soon, make sure that you schedule breaks through the day. You will get worn out easily, even if you only sit at your desk. I wish you the best.

I had surgery on Friday and went to work on Monday. I have an office job. I worked a full week. I was definitely tired by the time I got home but was able to get thru. I am in my fifties so I dont have the energy of some of the younger people. I took it easy and didn't move much. My doctor told someone it was possible to go to work the next day if they felt up to it.

Thank you for your replies. What I may do is just go to work and not tell my doctor. Fortunately, I will only have to work 4 hours each day, two times a week during that 2 week time.

I was off 10 days- I felt good enough to go back after 2-3 days off but decided to stay off 10 and get some Rest!

I did paperwork at home on the weekend which was 5 days after; only a couple hours. Today, I had to do a monthly report that took 5 hours. I got it done with one 30 min break and didn't feel any worse than I ever do when I do it (I have spinal disease). Part time work should be fine at a desk.

I had my surgery on 11/25 and I went back to work today and I feel great.

Ditto. My SIL has a co-worker who just had it done and she took 6 weeks! That's a bit much. As long as you feel fine and watch the weight restrictions, I don't see why you can't return sooner.

I am having my surgery done this Friday. I plan on being back to work by Tuesday next week. I also have a desk job so there will be no lifting or any strenuous physical activity that I would have to do. So for me it's simply going back to work to sit at my desk and do my work. Of course I plan on taking as many breaks as I need but everyone understands that need right after surgery.

My surgery was on a Wednesday and I went back the following Thursday. it was perfect because I only had to work for 2 days until the weekend came again. I was really tired those 2 days but after the weekend - I was so much better when I went back on Monday.

I had surgery on Friday and was back at work on Tuesday. I was fine other than fatigue, the pain was no issue.

I took two weeks off and have a desk job. I felt re-energized, no pain, and fatigue. I felt great and still do. :-)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
