food stuck and can't hold anything down

Recommended Posts

I'm assuming that that is the problem. I'm thinking a few days ago I ate some blackberry cobbler and ever since then I can't seem to hold anything down. I have been banded for 11 months and have lost 70 lbs. but I never came across this problem. I have moved and will be making an apt. with one of the Fill Centers USA tomorrow but in the mean time is there anything I can do?

Everytime I get stuck my stoma seems to get irritated for a few days and I can't hold anything down if I try to get back on solids right after an episode.

So now if I get stuck, I go back to Optifast for 2-3 meals right after, then ease my way through a mushy meal before trying solids again. It usually works well and gives any irritation time to subside.

I had an episode yesterday that lasted over 4 hours (I felt wretched) so am on Optifast today. Give it a go, it may help while you're waiting to talk to someone.

lellow, thanks for the advice. I read on another thread that slowing drinking pinapple juice works. So I ran to the store and bought some and sure enough it really worked for me. I am so relieved. I will stay on liquids today and tomorrow to help my poor tummy get better. And I will keep pinapple juice stocked!!

pineapple juice almost always induces an instant asthma attack for me! But in a worst case scenario, it might be worth trying. Thanks for the tip, Lis123. :smile2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
