Fertility? Or not fertility?

Recommended Posts

Hey! o.k. so part of the reason why I wanted to get banded is because I was not (am not) producing any eggs and at 34yrs young I didnt want to miss my chances of ever conceiving.....my H2B and I would like to have a tatertot one day and well I was just wondering if there were women out there who because of their obesity experienced the no ovulating and now do because of the surgery and how long did it take for your body to function "normally." ......

I have PCOS and the surgery had almost immediate effect on my condition. I was taking Metformin for around six years. It helped for a while but lately it just wasn't helping and I was going months without a cycle. I stopped taking my meds after surgery because I couldn't get the pills down but in less than two weeks my TOM came and I have been regular ever since without medication. I was recently tested and there is no sign of PCOS.

I have PCOS and I have not seen any results yet. I am 4 months out but I had the procedure for the same reason...to be able to have a baby. I was told I will never have kids and this was at a weight of 195lb. I am trying to stay positive but I am not losing weight and my doctor tells me it is that much harder when you do have PCOS to lose the weight. So I just keep hope...that maybe one day I will be able to be PCOS free and have children.

So good luck.

Stands for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. It is a form a insulin resistance and cuases us to have abnormal levels of certain hormones especially excess testosterone. It causes issues with fertility as well as ovarian cysts, hair thinning, acne, excess facial and body hair, skin tags, dark skin Patches, excess weight and high insulin levels.

I'm a PCOS'r too, although I was able to conceive prior to the band with the help of a great Reproductive Endocrinologist. Have you all been going to one? I'm assuming you have.

I would assume with weight loss it might move some hormones around and hopefully eggs will be flying.

Can I ask what your FSH level is? Did they test your LH levels too?

I would never take the word of a general practitioner for fertility or an OB/gyn. Go above to a specialist.

I was on Clomid, and ready for an IUI when the combo of metformin and Clomid worked for me.

Sending you loads of baby vibes. Oh and I was over 250 when I conceived, so I know it's way possible for you! Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
