Finally Started the Process and Very Excited!

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I'm very excited to have finally seen a doctor about my weight. I made it clear I was considering weight loss surgery and she referred me to a weight loss center where I have begun my 6 months diet (with an awesome doctor!)

I kind of feel like my diet isn't that restrictive...my limit is 2,200 calories a day and I usually don't have trouble with that at all...I feel like I'm eating normally and I wonder weather or not I will lose much weight.

Oh well- I suppose it could always be adjusted. I'm just happy to be on the road!

Brittany....Congrats on your journey to a healthier you. If I could make a suggestion. Start now with a journal, not necessarily on what you eat, but what you feel after you eat. I wish I would have done that. It will help when you get banded. A lot of us have struggles with food even after the band. I think some of us, including myself, think that your relationship with food is going to change and it really doesn't. Exspecially if you are a compulsive overeater. If you get your emotional issues out of the way and start dealing with it now it may make your transition to the band easier. Once you start writting it, it is amazing how many emotions come out on paper after overeating or eating the wrong foods at a meal. I have also learned by my journal that certain foods, like carbs, tend to make me depressed and tired. And after certain meals I have more energy. You can really learn alot about your body and it's reactions to foods. Again, congratulations and keep us informed on your journey.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
