I am over a year post-op and was doing wonderfully up until I got a nasty, nasty stomach bug and the dr. emptied my band totally. I was a good idea at the time because it did cut down on the awful nausea and the vomitting. But it's been over a month since and I felt better weeks ago and the dr. won't give me a fill until mid December. I am eating like a fool, I called and tried to explain but he just wants me to measure out my food, keep a food log, and pretty much starve. I am so mad at myself for not being able to exercise more dicipline. I have gained weight to the tune of about 6 pounds. I had really good restriction before my unfill and now I'm starving all day long 24/7. I fight it off as long as possible but always end up eating too much and the wrong stuff. Any suggestions, or kind words, or tough love out there? I am really sad about all this and ready to just give up. This is how I got so heavy in the first place. Can I demand a fill?

Were you self-pay? If so, I would demand a fill if not, I would then drive them crazy with my calls!

I was fortunate enough to have insurance that covered all but the $150.00 co-pay. I'm going to call the office again and ask if it's an insurance thing that I can't get a fill sooner or what. If it isn't I am fully prepared to camp out in his waiting room until he gives in. Keeping a food log that he is going to blow up over doesn't do me any good. I'm being totally honest about what I'm eating and how much, and when. And that is going to get him smoked for sure. I am ready to face whatever I need to in order to get some restriction again!

If you need to eat - then try to pig out on Protein until your fill. Eat cheese sticks and steak & eggs , ground turkey etc...

It will help to curb your appetite and you can still eat and lose weight. I had to do it to drop 7 pounds quickly before getting banded and it helped alot. Once you get your fill, you can get back on track.

Lol, I'd do completely the opposite - fill up on fruit and salad and even bread - low fat, airy and relatively low calorie stuff. The calories in cheese can add up FAST.

I've never ever been honest when keeping a food log, its a waste of time for me.

But mid December is not far away, 6lb is easily lost again and you HAVE dieted before. Its knowing that soon you'll have restriction that kind of gives you licence to pig out when you can but you must try to avoid that.

I want to thank everyone for the advice, I asked the dr's office it it was an insurance issue and they said no. So I was actually able to get in on the 5th of this month rather than wait. I am glad to know that my fill is coming much sooner than I expected. But now I'm sick over getting on the scale and having the dr. chew me out for gaining. I've worked so hard this past year and in the grand scheme of things six pounds is nothing, I'm just nervous about how he'll view it. I'm going to stick to liquids/mushies till then since I just had a root canal today maybe I'll lose a little that way too before I have to face the music. Thanks again everybody!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
