Hello Nadz, Congrads on Begining Your Journey. from this forum you will find that everyone is different and it really depends on different factors with the individual. As for myself i did do the Opti-fast for 2 weeks and lost 11lbs before surgery. you may find someone who has lost more than that or less than that. or someone who has started a diet even before the 2 weeks liquid diet, so it really varies .

Good Luck

I was also on Opti-fast for 2 weeks and I lost about 20pds but I had a really tough time drinking it because of the taste - Peppermint extract was my lifesaver!

thanks for your responses. just another question regarding the 2 week diet. did you both just drink the shakes and Water? or did you also have 2 cups of low starch vegetables as well?

I was on 3 shakes a day with 2 cups of low starch veggies. Along with that I could have as much Water, tea and coffee that I wanted as long as I didn't have anything with milk or suger in it (sugar substitutes were permitted). I followed it to a tee and my surgeons said my liver was perfect ~ I have had no real complications or pain from my surgery either!

how come some people have to fast 2 weeks and others have to fast 1 week or 1 day?

I really think that it all depends on the clinic. I asked my surgeon that question tonight when I had my follow-up and he said that they take into account the person's weight as well as what they prefer (and what works best from experience). With a 2 week method, neither of my surgeons have had to abandon a surgery due to a liver being too large.

I was allowed up to 5 Opti-fast drinks a day plus water, crystal light, tea, etc., sugar-free popsickles, sugar-free Jello, and broth. although i did like the flavors of the opti-fast it was still a challenge everyday, my mind was ready for it but my body was not.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
