Just banded, wish I wasnt so sore..

Recommended Posts

I was baned on 11/25. I woke with severe shoulder pain from being under. It went away that night while in the hospital. I had a hiatal hernia repaired as well. I was discharged the following day and on pain killers. It has been hard for me to get all the fluids in, Im not in the mood to drink at all. I have to make sure i do, so I dont get sick. I was pretty dehydrated this am upon waking, almost passed out. Stayed on top of fluids all day. I have been in so much pain in the abdomen area. It has been pretty intense until today. I still though am very sore when taking in deep breaths. Sore more so upon rising from bed. I think they underestimated the pain Id be in  Im sure all will be ok. Its a good thing I took two weeks off form work. Any advice on the pain?? I know everyone has a different experience. Would love to hear that it gets better :wink2: Thanks ~Heather

Heather - I was banded on the 19th and also had a hiatal hernia repaired. By day 6, I started to feel much better and it got better each day. I should warn you though, I have had tremendous pain in my left shoulder - especially when Im eat or drink. I've been reading on the other posts that alot of the people with the hiatal hernia repair are also experiencing the shoulder pain. It didn't start until around 6 days after my surgery. As farm as the pain in the abdominal area, I just took tylenol during the day and my pain meds at night. It will get better though each day - good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
