Marchin into the holidays: Dec 08

Recommended Posts

Mamma Lampert do you buy christmas gifts for all those kids & grandkids?

So good to hear from you, Janine--and everyone else as well! I've been super busy with work (our busiest season) so haven't been posting at all. I'm in Vail, CO for our Board of Trustees meeting--after this and the holidays things will settle down for me (I hope).

Everyone is doing so well--I'm happy for all of you. I'm continuing my very slow but sure weight loss and I'm fine with that. I feel like a "normal" person now--whatever that is! But I'm not embarrassed anymore at meetings like this or in public. I'm still overweight but not obese and I'm happy about that. Wearing size 14 jeans (after 2X's) feels wonderful. I feel that my adjustment is finally where it should be--I have to eat slowly and chew very well, can't eat in the morning before drinking something warm/hot, and am limited throughout the day and evening to less than a cup of food. So life is good!

To answer your question, Janine, this year is an "off" year for our family--all 25 of us were together last year and hopefully will be again next year but we have to share with the in-laws, you know. So this year only 4 of our children and one grandchild will be with us. We always buy matching pajamas for Christmas Eve and those have been sent to everyone. I bought each family a little Christmas decoration (it's a cute stuffed snowman that has embroidery on it that says "Families are Forever because Love Never Melts"). Then I always buy children's books for the kids and the grandkids--we are collectors of such. Other than that, probably a few things under the tree for those actually here on Christmas morning but that's it this year. I love my little swivel sweeper and the kids covet in when they visit so if I can justify it, I'll send each family one of those but that's just on my wish list. Pretty simple this year (thank goodness!).

So just a wordy checkin to my Marchie friends. Keep up the good work and have a wonderful holiday season! Karen

Hi Marchies!

Janine, Thanks. Zumba is a good workout. Watch out that you don't get too sexy too fast.

Gwen, You keep on. Those 8 pounds will be off in a minute.

Tab, Thoes are lofty goals. If you control that lunch you'll be well set mentally to control the drinks. You can do it!

Hey Carol!

Jeni, My girl, I'm going to be in Chicago the 19-21st. Really Joliet most of Saturday and Sunday. But on Friday I might be able to swing a meeting. How might that work? PM me!

I've worked out 3 days in a row. My food yesterday was something to be proud of. No sweets and no simple carbs. Also no huge portions. I'm shooting for one pound a week.

XO!

Saw the ortho doctor today. She did injections. The first knee wasn't so bad, the second knee hurt like he doulble hockey sticks. We'll see how this does and she may do injections that put lubrication in the joints, after the corizone injections not sure about the other stuff. They do feel better right now. Have to take it easy for the next 48 hours and put ice on them. I really hope this helps. I want to get back to the gym next week. I think I will try going three times a week to the Water arobics class.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Carol

I have to admit that I missed all my goals on Thursday and Friday and drank alcohol and ate fried foods. It was BAD - To make matters worse, I could eat ANYTHING - it's almost as if I magically lost restriction with the BAD foods - I am back on track today, and miraculously, my restriction is BACK!!!

Hi All, this week has been a good week for me. Work was so-so, picked up Wednesday on. Made it to the gym from Tuesday to today. I was so good that after my saturday step aerobics class I went to my Kwando class. I stuck out the entire hour. Well, 50 minutes, it took me ten minutes and some coaxing to get into the class. But when I did, I realized that everyone in the class was new at some point. I'll be keeping this class.

Momlambert, welcome back. I still follow your suggestion of drinking something warm prior to eating.

Tabithan, I to was able to eat anything along with making bad food choices. I was convinced I had lost my restirction. That I needed another fill. But when I got back on track, it my restirction came back. But, I still want a small fill, I'm losing weight again and don't want the X-Mas holiday to miss it up.

Juli, I found another way to get a nutrition class certification. On the AARP site, an affilitate w/ them ACE has a Lifestyle & Weight Management Program and classes for Personal and Group Trainers. I've enrolled for the Lifestyle & Weight, but I can't use what I'll learn until I take the Personal Trainer Course. So, I get to do what I want as well as devise a exercise program for my clients. I'm more excited about this that the other nutrition program I found. It's an online program and a group program in different cities every few months.

And most of all it's in my price budget. The other classes I can take as I need them money permitting.

Carol hope the injections work for you. The day will come when you won't need to get any more of them.

So, everyone have a great weekend and hope to read your good news.

Gwen,

That's so awesome! I'm glad you found a solution that works for your nutrition education.

The biggest part of meeting goals is to keep on trying.

Good going!

I worked out insanely Saturday. Chest and triceps and HOLY COW I couldn't push the grocery cart yesterday without it aching!

I'm laid out with a cold today which is keeping me out of the gym but I can't wait to get back in there to work more muscles. I have this image of myself after the plastic surgery all ripped. HA!

Hi All, I went to the gym today, followed the Bally's 5 day exercise program. Came home and made bad dinner choices. I was so busy making lunch meals yesterday, I forgot to make dinner meals. Have to do better tomorrow.

Let's all stay on track this week.

Tab,

You're funny. Congrats on the spin class. Mine kicked my butt. It was awesome.

As for my tips.

1. Get the band.

2. Eat less

3. Exercise

4. Be happy

Really the difference, in my humble opinon, is exercise. It doesn't just burn calories, but it makes you feel good, it reshapes your body and it makes you stronger. It also connects you to your physical self like nothing else. Not to get all woo-wooey, there's something spiritual about it too, getting to know yourself, getting in the zone...all that good stuff.

Are you one to post pictures? If so, show us what you look like.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
