Has anyone out there had success with rice & pasta?

Recommended Posts

I'm just curious if there are people out there that have found that they are able to eat rice & Pasta and if so - what are you doing that makes it agreebale with the band. (I'm still on the mushy phase)

I made tuna casserole last night with whole wheat Pasta and did not have any issues. I am only 3 weeks out with probably little restriction so that could be why. I have not had issues with anything. I have only been on solids for less than a week but can eat bread, pasta and crackers.

I could eat both until my 2nd fill. I had rice for my mushy stage and didn't have an issue at all. But now I can't eat rice at all (or anyting made with rice) but can still eat Pasta easily (even al dente).

I'm not quite at my sweet spot yet but definitely have good restriction. I can eat bread in small amounts, Pasta without problems at all, and egg noodles slip past the band easily, so I have to monitor how much I eat of it. I can't tolerate rice noodles at all.

I have been able to eat rice and Pasta from day one of getting banded over two years ago. I don't do anything different that I did pre-band. Although, I do eat it a lot less frequently, it is more of a treat now than anything.

I eat rice sometimes and I eat whole wheat Pasta. Neither one have given me a problem yet, but I just had my second fill and it is kicking my butt. Soooooo, maybe I have just been lucky prior to now.

I can eat rice & Pasta, without doing anything special. Rice I've never had a problem with, and I'm not a fan of pasta so I rarely eat it.. but I've eaten long noodles too quick and had issue.. as long as I remember to chew them it's all good.

Pasta may become the death of me. I never liked it much BEFORE the surgery, but now it's one of the things I can eat and not get stuck... so I have been eating it a lot.

I tried sushi once with rice and it didn't get stuck (before first fill) but it didn't feel good either. I'm avoiding it.

Like Susan and Jachut, I don't have issues with eating either rice or Pasta. It is just another food. Chew chew chew and chew some more, then swallow.

I just follow the directions on the packaging.

But I've heard many have difficulty eating it after they are banded.

I haven't been able to eat applesauce- go figure!

i don't have any issues aside from sticky rice in sushi. i have to take my time with that - otherwise when i make rice at home it's brown whole grain & i've replaced my Pasta with the ronzoni smart taste version.

pasta has always been one of my downfalls - i try to limit it to once or twice a month.

I have been able to eat brown rice with no problems (white rice got stuck from eating either too fast or too much). I always buy Barilla Plus Pasta and haven't had trouble with that. I have only had 2 fills so this information is subject to change.

I think I'm thinking about when I go to a restaurant, pasta/protein/veggie dishes are the best to take home for leftovers - salads don't keep too well. How has everyone done with pizza?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
