Ho Ho Holidays

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd start a thread where everyone could post their methods of avoiding overeating during the holidays.

Thanksgiving is over, but the leftovers are still here, then it's my son's birthday, my wedding anniversary, three work parties (one for 60 at my house...), Christmas and of course, New Years.

Post your ideas friends!

I am going through the same thing. I go for my first fill this Friday! I am not doing well with the Portion Control, it seems as if I am hungry all day long! Thanksgiving was especially hard. Although I did not eat as much as I usually do, the amount I ate was too much! I am hoping that after my fill Christmas dinner will be better!

I think having a plan is a good idea. I'm trying to be really good all the other times so when I slip at a party it won't be on top of general bad eating.

Add exercise if you can. Drink plenty of Water. At the party you are hosting make sure you have plenty of good for you food. At the other parties, eat before you go and establish limits on what you'll eat while you are there.

And remember it's about being with people and the spirit of the season. It's not about FOOD!

I admit I went a bit over the top the past few days. No where near what I would have eaten before the surgery. So back on a real restricted diet and Protein drinks for a few days to get the old body back to what I was. I gained a pound over the weekend.

One fill before Christmas on December 11th. So at least 48 hours on liquids then. I hope to be 170 by New Years day.

I won't add the pound on now, I'll wait for my Friday weigh in to see what happens. LOL

I won't keep any real sweets in the house. And on Christmas cook a nice healthy meal. Good roast, with lots of veggies and salad.

I was at a craft fair, and this couple was selling home made diet hot chocolate drinks, a powder. Made with Splenda. I had a sample of the Chocolate/Peanut Butter Cup - hot chocolate, so yummy tasted like a melted Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. Only 30 calories a cup and it sure satisfied my chocolate urge. LOL

i plan to eat a small healthy meal before the cocktail parties we have coming up. that way i can focus on my friends & not the food.

we also have 2 dinner parties, and i have already looked online at the restaurants menu & have an idea of what to order....i have to have some idea planned in advance or i'm likely to make bad decisions.

around the house, since it's just hubby and i and he too is banded....i just keep temptation at bay. i'll take to an extra glass of wine here or there at dinner - but will keep the "snacks" at the store..

small hijack - julie your new avi is GREAT!!!

I've gained 4 %*$#ing pounds since the 21st!!! I'm so disgusted with myself. I didn't realize how sick to death of tuna I was until I sampled the gravey, pumpkin pie, buttermilk pie, stuffing, etc. And the leftovers!!!! You open the fridge door and they fall out on top of you!! Lord help me.......

I tossed most of the leftovers. I took the two turkeys I cooked and stripped all the left over meat. Packaged it. took the carcasses and broke them up. I added onions, carrots and herbs and celery and some small amount of left over gravy. No fat gravy that I made and made a rich stock. It's out on the porch...cold tonight will de-fat it and strain it and then make a nice rich turkey Soup with lots of veggies, small amount of little Pasta things for soup. Will freeze some and give some away. I love my turkey soup.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
