I begin my 10 day liquid preop diet tomorrow. I am really excited but worried about going "cold turkey" tomorrow. If anyone has any tips that could help - I would appreciate.

I would say, keep busy. Do lots of walking when you feel that you might fall off the wagon. Drink lots of Water. I would add fat free broth to the mix to help fill you up between Protein Drinks. Consume high Protein drinks as they tend to fill you up more.

Good luck:biggrin:

What high Protein drinks did you use?

New Whey Protein bullets. They have 42 grams of protein, taste slimy, are 3.1 ounces. I love the orange. You can drink them cold from the fridge or room temp, so I back them in my purse when I know I am going to be out in the community and to busy to eat.

I also love the Isopure drinks. They have 40 grams of protein and they are like a lightly flavored water drink. I like the grape, orange, and apple-melon.

I still use these products, as they keep me full and I can make sure I get the right amount of daily protein.

Hi :cursing: I'm scheduled for Dec 11th too and start my liquid diet tomorrow. Nervous as well!

I ordered injury.com Protein drinks which I hear are really good. i don't think they'll be here by monday though so I'm going to see what they have at the supermarket for a couple days.

Going out shopping for my case of Water, sugar free Jello, broth or bullion. I can also have light yogurt (yech) and cottage cheese (yech).

I am scheduled for Dec 11th also - started the pre-op diet the day after Thanksgiving. Day three and all is okay - I added fat free & low sodium broth & it really helps to mix it up. Good luck - the first day is the most challenging.

Stick to what your doc says and you'll do great! If your doc has a preference regarding Protein and Protein Shakes, follow his/her advice. You'll make it! Just keep your eye on the prize!

I try to avoid the forums. I have to pick what threads I read carefully because there can be negative vibes or doomsayers. My doctor actually advised me to stay off the forums for the most part.

I do admit though when I see posts from other people saying their dates are same as mine I really want to make a connection. This is a HUGE undertaking in my life as I'm sure it is and has been to everyone here.

That said I do very much love the before/after thread and refer to it often. I can't wait to post my success pictures there as well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
