I am 5 days post op and have moved from liquids to mushy foods. Every time I eat, I have a bowel movement, is this normal? I have lost 13 pounds in 5 days, which I am excited about. Also, I started my period today and noticed that it was much heavier then normal... ( I was very irregular, got my period 4-5 times a year), is this because of the weight loss?

After surgery your body goes into shock, so your bathroom habbits may change for a couple of weeks after.

Everytime I have surgery (doesn't matter what it is for), I wake up at least 2-3 times a night to pee (like my Grandma and Grandpa). Now I am only 26 years old and can normally hold my urine for a night no problem. It is just that your body is trying to heal right now and it won't always act the same. This is also true for your period.

If you are still unsure about it all, talk to your surgeon about it. I am pretty sure he/she will say the same thing to you.

Good luck in your journey!

I think it was just a coincidence that U got your period, even though I bet w/ wt loss it will become more regular. I got mine the night post op while in the hospital - just what I needed! But I figured it was gonna happen then surgery or not. (I too get mine 2-3 times a year):blushing:

My doc keeps telling me surgery puts the body under much more stress than we give it credit. :cursing:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
