Any Advice for Pre-Op Diet?

Recommended Posts

:redface:Hey Bandsters and Bandsters To Be!

I need some advice please!!

I've got my pre-op visit this Tuesday and will be scheduling my surgery date!! HOW EXCITING!!:) My Surgeon suggests the South Beach Diet however I'd like to know what else has worked for you? Also, looking back (if you are already banded) what would you have done to better prepare yourself for the band?

Thanks for all of your support and posts each one helps more then you know!

:) Steph :)

For my preop diet I did weight watchers and completely cut out soda. It worked and I lost 25 lbs in 1 1/2 months. Speak with a nutrisionist and see what kind of diet they can help you with. I also really practiced not eating and drinking at the same time and chewing A LOT!!!!!!!!!

Good luck.

My pre-op diet consisted of a slimfast shake in the morning and a lean cuisine/smart ones meal for lunch and another one for dinner. I was told if I needed something more I could have a salad with only green veggies(lettuce, spinach, celery, cucumbers, asparagus) and had to use those spray dressings (YUCK!!!-I hated those) I was also allowed one sugar free Jello or sugar free pudding per day. I was not allowed any caffeine or soda. I could use Splenda to sweeten Decaf tea and I could have Crystal Lite and Water. It worked for me. I lost 19 lbs pre-op. Good luck to you!!!

For my pre-op diet, I followed my doctor's orders, which were one of the two following choices:

1. Three high Protein shakes that were low carb or

2. Two high Protein Shakes that were low carb with an evening meal high in Protein.< /p>

I was well prepared for the band ahead of time and have no regrets.

Good luck!

My preop diet was similar to TQUADs...2-3 EAS Carb Control AdvantEDGE shakes a day, AT LEAST 64 oz of Water a day, no caffeine, 3-4 oz of lean Protein (turkey fish chicken only) and 1 cup greens each day. THAT is it. NOTHING else. No broth no sf Jello no sf popsicles nothing. I lost 15 pounds in 3 weeks doing that and "cheating" (ate cheese, ate a hamburger once, ate breading on my fish once, you get the drift...lite cheating) but liver hadn't shrunk. I did exactly what my doc says for 2.5 weeks and lost...17 MORE pounds (I was astounded). So if you want to lose a lot really quickly, something high protein low carb low fat will do it! :cursing: Make sure you get plenty water, whichever route you take!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
