I'm finally banded...

Recommended Posts

Hey,

My name is Shanna. I'm a 32 year old wife and mom... and I got banded on Monday November 24th, 2008 by Dr. Daniel Jones at the Beth Israel Deconness Hospital in Boston, MA.

I'm doing pretty well, but there are times when I get extremely uncomfortable and I feel like I can actually FEEL the band inside and it's not right... but then again, I don't know how it's supposed to feel since this is all new to me. It might be the gas... it might just be me being nervous. BUT, I'm doing better than what I though I was going to be... and I've finally got it done! I'm down just about 12 pounds already and I can say for once that I don't hate the scale.< /p>

Well, I hope to get to know many of you and walk along side you as we all become healthier and look towards the future.

Please introduce yourselves... I can't wait to talk to others who are right here with me!

Thanks,

Shanna

Nice to meet you. We have the same bandday as I had mine put in Nov 24th as well. Mine was done at Miriam Hospital in RI. I've lost 14lbs so far. Finally got past most of the gas pains and shoulder pain. Right now I'm battling with some heartburn but feeling better each day. Are you on liquids only too? I got to admit I fill up quick but am missing "chewing" even though I don't feel hungry!!!

Keep in touch.......Bill:thumbup:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
