Researching lap band

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I'm new here, and I would like to hear all the good and bad about the lap band. I am going this Dec 9 to a consultaton. What do I need to know? And is it worth having done? Is the sucess rate, a good one?

Thanks. Lori Anne

I think many of us here are lap band patients; there is a section of horror stories and you can probably find it by checking the forums. Personally I have no problems with the band, love it, don't regret it, would do it again in an instant. However, perhaps you should attend a seminar first. Statistics and comparisons are covered in the good ones....or like I did, buy a couple of books on lap band surgery. This site is great for anecdotal info about recovery and life with the band, but perhaps a seminar can answer your initial questions. Lap Band IS a lifestyle; it's hard to just tell you "what you need to know"! Helpful though we want to be! LOL Also reading through the different forums and posts here may give you the essence of what you're looking for. It's a life style and a life change, I can tell you that!

I would recommend you read, read, read all the information on this site. As far as stats, look for published medical studies rather than word of mouth. You can do a Google search for bariatric medical studies or if you have access to a library you can research there. Medical journals are a great source of information.

I researched on line via the library I have membership too. I retrieved at least 30 bariatric medical study reports. I researched banding and by-pass. I looked for the good and the bad, because I wanted to be well informed.

I have no regrets and have lost over 25 pounds thus far with the band.

Good luck!

I have been banded since September and am grateful for it every minute. I have lost 54 lbs so far and I am on my way to a healthy body. I did a lot of research on the internet. You may want to search the sites for your area and once you have found a few doctors, research them to see who has a great record and who is the leader in your town for bariatric surgery. I researched and narrowed it down to two doctors and then went to each of their seminars. Once I met with them for a consult, I had a pretty good idea of who I wanted to go with. I also researched the type of band they were using and the type of surgery they perform. I went with the doctor that used "LapBand" because I found that it had a great success record, and performed the surgery laproscopically. I have four 1/2" incisions and 1 1/2" incision and he used a type of "crazy glue" on the incision to close them up so I could shower the very first day.

I am a firm believer in research and knowledge. I hope you Quest turns out great!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
