NoVa Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Does anybody here attend some form of support group, whether a psychiatrist, an overeaters' group, or simply a group of fellow bandsters? It is something I know I want to do as I lose with the band, and wanted to know what's out there and/or how you liked it and how it's worked for you.

Beth;

I'm having surgery TUES at GWU. I haven't found a support group yet...seems that everyone that was in my pre-op classes at GW was having gastric bypass. Did you not like Dr. Pinnar's group? I have a friend that used him and went to his sessions a few times. I'll need to ask her why she stopped going. I think it was just too far/inconvenient with her work schedule.

I will actually go to my first Pinnar group on Monday. Maybe once I see what they talk about, it will be just what I'm looking for... I dunno. It is a tad bit far for me, but it was more that I wasn't sure if people also do an OA or therapist along with whatever else they have going on.

Mine was more the thought of what if I want/need to see somebody or join a group more than once a month.

And gratz on your surgery!!! Are you in and out the same day, or are you staying overnight? I was an overnighter.

I live in Franconia, what about you? I've got a couple of friends near here that are my informal support group...one who had lb surgery a year ago and one 3 years ago. You could join us...both of them have been successful...the 3 year guy has lost 115 or more. The one year, girl, had some trouble early on, but is 35 down now and is on the right track.

In Leesburg here, so it might be a tad bit far. I'll keep this one in mind, though. Thanks! :thumbup:

Hi, I'm in Vienna. I was banded by Drs. Halmi and Tran. They have a support group in Woodbridge and are working on starting one in the Vienna area. I believe I heard they are open to non patients, but I'm not sure.

It's nice to know there are more of us in the area!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
