I was out all day today and decided to stop for dinner and have a little Soup at the Olive Garden. I mistakingly bit a very small bit of a soup soaked bread and it got stuck. I waited for about 15 minutes and eventually, I burped and released about a cup full of saliva, the small piece of chewed bread, and some of the soup I had sipped.

There wasn't any bile and it didn't necessarily feel as if I had truly vomited. Am I alright? Is it possible that I've harmed my band? What should I be concerned about?

I've had some soup to eat in the last hour and I feel normal. My stomach feels like it normally does when I'm full with the band. If it were to "slip", what would I be looking for?

BTW, I was just banded last Friday (it's one week now)

I replied to your other post about this; you need to call your doc and make sure everything's still in place because you are so soon post op. What you did sounds like "PB'ing" where food won't go through the hole or stoma and your body "burps" it back up, accompanied by liberal amounts of mucous. That does happen and once you're healed it isn't a major concern.

After only 1 week, however, you might have torn your stitches loose. Only your doc can tell you if he wants to test you or if it is no big deal. Be sure to call on Monday!

happen to agree with restlessmonkey.

call your dr & tell him what you ate and what happened (PB).

you may not know if you'll slip for several months out - but you should really be following your post op diet pretty closely...and bread shouldn't be on it...

i would be really concerned about PB'ing this early out - stitches take time to heal. let us know how it turns out.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
