Hello,

I am new to this site, I am thinking of getting the Lap Band procedure after years and money trying to lose and STAY that way. I am a true chicken, I have anxiety anyway, and the thought of something going wrong, stuck or slips, really scares me. I am going to see Dr. Choban, she recently did my husbands gallbladder surgery, and she is direct and to the point and very professional. I want to be skinny, HEALTHY, and reduce or get completely of all the medications I take. I already have high liver counts, so that worries me too. Did I already say I am afraid???......LOL My Aunt had the Gastric Bypass and actually died from complications and my Uncle went to have it done and when they opened him up, his liver was so far gone, they just closed him back up and he died a year or so later. So as you can tell, I am very worried, but know I need something to assist me in losing weight and keeping it off. Sorry for all the ranting!

Hi,

I totally understand your fears. I'm currently considering the Realize band surgery. Trying to get healthy as well. I believe the benefits outweigh any complications from the surgery. I will be praying for peace in your decision. HANG IN THERE

Do this for YOU! It's time to regain your self esteem and find a hobby you actually enjoy. I had mine done 6 days ago and even though there has been some adjustment I believe I can succeed at this. You can too!

Hi! I am new to all of this also! My best friend from grade school and I are both considering the Lap Band. We have read everything we can get our hands on. I am calling tomorrow to set up the initial appointment. I want to be thinner and healthy but that liquid diet scares me! Hopefully we can all support each other!! I still have lots of questions!!

Okay, I finally called and made the appointment. It is for Dec. 17th for my informational session and THEN I will meet with the doctor. It took me 2 weeks to get up my nerve to call. I really want to do this but it is such a big life change and commitment. Anyone one elso out there going through the initial stages?

I was banded 11 days ago and it was the best decision I have ever made! Sure, the liquid diet sucks but the end result is so much worth it. It goes by a lot quicker than you originally think it will. I only have 3 days left before I get to move to the "blended" diet! I already feel so much better about myself and that is greatest benefit! Good luck with what you choose to do but I would seriously consider it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
