Anyone getting banded in January

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am due to be lap banded in Belgium on 23rd January by Dr De Bruyne in Vilvoorde, however they are now trying to charge me an extra £720.00. I originally paid for this in November (£3,250.00). They are now telling m ethat due to the exchange rate the surgery will cost more. I have sent them an email as I would have expected the exchange rate in November to be applied to my funds and not todays.

I know that there are a few people form the UK scheduled for surgery on the same date. Has anyone else been advised of this?

They did tell me if I don't agree to pay the extra they will refund me but I have already bought the flights etc so will loose out on this too.

I hope you don't mind a Londoner joining the mix - I am having my op on 21st January - very excited, but I am quite scared! My pre-op diet starts on Thursday and I am not sure what to eat - any advice? Is it totally fat-free, or are we allowed a trace of fat? Not looking forward to the build-up, but I am looking forward to taking positive action against my weight. x :tongue2:

Hi Alison, that sucks...in your original letter was there anything mentioned about exchange rates?..

i guess they can do pretty much what they like as they have you over a barrel..

my surgery is in the UK, i was going to opt for Belgium then i got asked if i wanted it on the NHS & only had to wait 5 months, whats 5 months waiting time out of a lifetime bad habbits?

good luck hope there is something you can do or maybe see if they will compromise ?

I am scheduled for January 13, 2009 at 7:30 am. I am so ready, a little nervous though. Like you all probably, I have tried just about everything. WW helped the most, I lost 75 lbs on it, but I gained it all back. I have been yo yoing all my life. I am 52 and my health has paid for the weight. :frown:

Hi Maureen,

Do you live in Heidelberg? Beautiful there, for sure! I haven't been since 2001, but would love to return sometime soon. Best wishes for your surgery.

Hi,

Nothing in my original letter, however they did say that if I paid in November (which I did). The price would be guaranteed. I have sent them an email asking when they converted the funds to EUR's as the exchange rate in November is different to what it is today and I don't believe they still have the funds in sterling. I could have sent them EUR's however they asked for a sterling payment.

I am awaiting their response.

Hi Allison,

I'm also scheduled for the 23rd. I booked with Frederik so I'm paying in Euros 4070, I haven't heard anything about a price change. I hope all works out for you, I am really looking forward to meeting you on the 22nd! Keep us up to date with this issue.-T

Hi Tamisu,

When I paid the sterling the value was approx EUR 4,000.00. I have sent them an email as their website is still advertising in sterling, also my sister was interested but this has now put her off.

Have you been given a diet to follow (pre op)?

See you on 22nd, I am staying at the Camponile

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
