Hi I am new to LBT. I have been coming on here reading the different post for about a week now. I am now in the proccess of getting the Lap Band. I attendted the seminar on Nov. 22, I had my consultation with the Doc Yesterday(Nov.26) and had my paperwork sent to BCBS Fed the sameday. So I am just praying that they approve me and soon. The Dr. said that BCBS Fed is pretty good with approving patients, I hope so!:grouphug:

I am new too and have lots of questions. Why did you decide on the band vs. bypass? Did your doctors give you good advice that led to the band? I am ready to be thin....I know this is not the magic pill and will require lots of work, self control, etc. but I have to do something to be healthier and happier with myself.

I am open to all feedback, thoughts and insights.

Thanks

Lisa

Well for me I would have never thought in a million years I would have weight loss surgery. I used to think that was the easy way out and I wanted to work hard for mine. Yeah right! I have been busting my butt of trying to lose weight for a long time and have had no good results. So a few weeks ago I saw a Lap Band commercial and was like hmm.....maybe. But then after that I didnt think anything of it again until one of my classmates came to class and I was like something is different about her. So she was talking to the teacher and was telling him that her chior uniform is too big,she was a size 28 and now a 14- 16. I honestly thought, hey is this chick on drugs, lol!! So I asked someone how did she lose the weight and they said Lap band. And from then on I have been on my way with getting the surgery.

I never thought I would have weight loss surgery but a person I know, not really a friend, called me out of the blue a few weeks ago, told me had the band surgery done in April and has loss 77 lbs so far, he was my motivation to call for a consultation--if he can do it I think I can too. In a really freaky twist of fate or something else another friend sent me to a horoscope website for fun, it says on Nov 4 something will change that has been part of my life for a long time.....sure enough November 4 is the day he called me. I am taking it as "the sign!" I needed to move forward and everything will be okay. I am cautionally optimistic at this point.

This website so far has been invaluable. Lots of great info and insights.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
