I think I posted this recipe before for you guys, something my Granny makes & she gave to me.. sooo good, and I am picky (duh) with food, so I get to change it to how I like it. Original recipe has potatoes in it (yuck) and she uses kielbasa, but I made this weekend with brats because it's the only sausage-like meat I had.

Cook meat (some sort of link sausage cut into bite size pieces, kielbasa, italian sausage, etc.), drain. She said set the meat aside, but I left it in. This is where you add 1.5c chicken broth, potatoes cut up (if you use them) and cut up carrots.. I added canned carrots and no potatoes.. so didn't need to let it cook long to get soft.. Then add 1.5c milk & 1c shredded cheddar. Let it get hot, but not boil. Add parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper. Sounds really simple, but it is SO YUMMY. I serve it will dill weed sprinkled all over the top (even better).

Oh and I did get the ingredients to make the ham & chz Soup, so I plan to make that sometime this week. I bought some bag of cubed ham meat.

....no, i was kidding michelle. Besides, this is a total BREEZE compared to the logistics of the last trip!

Michelle - why don't you coordinate food/cooking. That's not my thang.

Since I'm not paying for room & board, I'll buy some veggie & fruit trays (and some other random snacks) and bring down in my car.

You want me to coordinate food/cooking? Ok, here goes:

The Violet who is least inebriated (Judy) goes out & purchases 1 brisket dinner & brings it back & we all share it.

Voila.

Really... coordinating drinks will be harder than coordinating FOOD!

(Just joshin' gals... I'll be happy to coordinate food & cooking... my fav things... which is why I ended up meeting ya'll in the first place!!)

Hi guys

quick work check in. What a day! That is all i can say, changing Temp agencies because of the payroll mess i've been having and it is a nightmare.

On a happy note, I was told by my company this morning they appreciate me so much they are paying me for the week that I had to take off for being in the hospital. OMG. I'm paying for the trip with it... Totally unexpected and will be a total of 5 days so it is a full paycheck! I'm so happy

anyway - bbl

Hope everyone has a great day

HI PAMELA

The website for the place says there's shops & restaurants nearby.. not sure what, anytime I've ever been to Guntersville Lake it was for summer camp and we were in cabins in the middle of nowhere with no signs of any shops or restaurants lol.

It also says Cathedral Caverns is nearby, which is actually pretty cool if anyone's intersted

Hi folks :cursing:

No healing miracle happened. My "new" chiro did x-rays and the electrodes but no adjustment until he reviews the x-rays. I go back tomorrow for that part...UGH. I am gonna go take a pill and lay down.

Oh, I am not driving 12 HOURS!! I thought it was closer than that. I will just fly in.

LOL! No rum balls for the 2 month old! Wait till he's at least 1 before you go sneaking him his first alcohol!

Uhm.. not sure about spas, I was really surprised about there being restaurants and shops honestly.. it's really out in the wilderness.. very peaceful, but not full of high society things--like spas!

(Although plenty of kelp & mud in the river, you can coat yourself.. for free!)

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
