Day Two and Miserable

Recommended Posts

Maybe I'm just being a baby here....but OMG I'm in pain. My stomach feels like it's going to stretch open every time I move. The doc's office said i should be up to 4 oz of fluids at a sitting today but there's no way....anything more than a sip or two of juice/water makes me want to throw up. Speaking of that....i'm "throwing up" air which are the strangest burps I've ever had. And if my sister tells me one more time that her sis-in-law was back to work, on her feet no less!, two days after she had her band...I will find the energy to kill her. (Ok, not really but that fab x-mas present I've already bought is sooooooo going back.)

Can someone please tell me this too shall pass and it's totally normal? Thanks.

I'm with you on this. I got banded 2 days ago also. I didn't sleep for nearly 38 hours because of all the pain and discomfort. The gas pain was nothing less than incredible. It still is causing me pain, but not nearly as much as the first 2 days. Yeah, I too know a lying sack of @#$!# who said he was back to work in two days. Not on your life! I'm not a stranger to pain and this was way too much to even consider driving a car etc... I feel your pain. Hang in there. The worst is almost over.

i am totally with you but today is my third day and it is gettting a little better. did your doc give you anything for nausea? i still have bad back pain but i can finally breath without my stomach feeling like it is going to rip in half. i think the pain for me is gas and back massages and pats (like burping a baby) has help release the mean painul gas. i too was concerned about the pain lasting this long so i called my doc and he told me it is totally normal to keep taking my pain meds and relax.

No, he didn't give m anything for nausea just the liquid loritab for pain. Actually, I think i know what caused it....i had some itailan ice (like a firm slushie) and it was LOADED with sugar. I've been off sugar for a while now and I think that's what did it. So no more of that for me.

Thanks ya'll....it's nice to know I'm not a baby who needs to suck it up.

I am on day 5...it gets better rapidly, so hang in there. If you are still nauseated, call for some liquid phenargan from your surgeon. I did...helped me sleep and really got rid of the nausea. The more up and around you are, truly the better you will feel the next day, so do try to move around, even if it hurts.

Don't worry too much yet about intake I think. It will come in good time.

It WILL get better.

I'm one day out, and glad to hear someone else is uncomfortable, also. I feel like I can't even swallow my liquid meds. My stomach is sooooooooo bloated. And yeah, it hurts to move. I'm glad I found this post! Thanks guys!

I found that 7-11 has sugarless slurpeez. They have a mean crystal light mango drink and it really helped me. I got a pill for the nausea, but it didn't seem to help me much. I am much better this evening. It is getting better.

This too shall pass! I felt tons better by day 4. A week after the surgery, I was able to comfortably walk around. I wasn't able to drink 4 oz. for a while. Listen to your body and not what everyone else says...we all heal differently!

You guys were absolutely correct...it does get better! Today is day 3---the gas is moving (gross I know) and my stomach feels like you do after a really, really hard workout (stiff and sore but definately bearable.)

Just block out what others did with going back at such and such a time. I took a month off of work and I'm glad I did and don't regret it. You see I'm doing great with my weight loss. I had a hell start but it's been great ever since I got past all that.

It really does get better. I am two weeks out and the first 5-days were the worse. Pain, gas, soreness, and diarreah. On day seven, I felt great and was driving, shopping, and doing chores.

It will get better.

I posted this elsewhere but I just wanted to mention a few things that helped me out during the first things. I was one of those who went back to work 4 days later . . . but it really sucked and I was exhausted and grumpy.

It is not uncommon to feel this way a few days out. The best fix is time, and walking around. Even though you don't feel like you want to get up and move around, it does help you feel better later. Staying in bed does make it worse in that it takes a lot longer to feel better.

Taking a really hot bath also helps, but this might sound counter-intuitive. You are not supposed to submerge your incisions in Water so near to surgery, so I only had enough Water to lie in it with my belly completely exposed to air. It really helped relax me and get rid of some of the pain.

Gas-X helps some people more than others for the belly pain and tightness. I got some limited relief from it.

There is also a chewable tablet called Nausene that you can get in grocery stores, pharmacies or Wal-mart that really helped with my nausea in the early days. I found that when I was first banded, it was drinking water that made me nauseous. I only used this a little over the first couple of weeks post banding, afterwards I never needed it anymore.

Good luck, heal well, and just remember you are going to feel 100 times better in another week. Hang in there.

HI

I am 3 day post op and I feel pretty good today. I called my dr and realized I could have skim milk and some slim fast. I took some creamy chicken Soup and watered it down slightly. I have absolutely been starving this week. I went shopping for black friday with my hubbie and felt great.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
