I'm sorry that you're upset, but there are reasons the psych evals are so necessary. They need to weed out certain people, or in some cases they need to put some requirements on you to help prove to yourself and maybe even the doctor that you can do this.

As has been stated, this is NOT a clean slate. It's a tool to help you. I will be very honest and say what caught me on your second post, and I don't mean it to sound negative or derogatory in any fashion because it's not, but you said it yoruself: You've been seeing a nutritionist for five months and have lost 12 pounds. I'm sorry, but that tells me that maybe it puts up a red flag for the psychiatrist. You will have to do ALL the things you are doing now with the nutritionist, just with a band.

When I have followed a good, healthy-but-strict diet in the past, I was losing about 10 pounds a month. I'm not saying we are all alike or lose alike, but maybe the psychiatrist feels you're not serious enough yet. That you need to put forth some more blood, sweat, and tears before he okays you.

Trust me, there would be nothing much worse than banding somebody who is not ready and potentially sabotages or overeats and injures themselves.

We don't go to the psychiatrists to get rubber stamped for approval. The tests DO weed certain people out. And depression is not the only issue. I suffer from mild depression AND take meds for it. And my doctor knew all about that.

Five percent is only 20 pounds. If you are really serious about that, you can do 20 pounds in no time, seriously. Typically the heavier we start out, the more we lose early on. Invest this in yourself if it's really what you want.

First, chin up! You can't fight your battle if you can't see it and unless it's on the floor you must lift that chin up! My eval was 546 questions like yours, I remember thinking that while homice had never crossed my mind before, I did want to battle to death the guy that worte those questions! I haven't had surgey yet hoping for early in Jan. I don't it to be to hard for me to give up stuff at once. I am chiping away at some of the bad habits. I am drinking more Water, cut out about 2 or more quarts of sweet iced tea daily and replaced it with Crystal Lite. I drink hot antioxident tea(it flushes bad stuff) with grape peels for flavor, still take a little sugar but I lost about 6 pounds. I have only made small adjusments on what I eat and not protions yet. This is something you will need to do as well. The big thing is that your sugeron knows what needs to be done fo the surgey to be successful. He will look at what he :sneaky:needs from you and what might have been suggested and then he will instruct you as he feels needs to be done for you. Was Pys person someone the dr recommened. We will all be tested to some degree. We must have and be able to show that we have reserached and gotten vauable infomation that we undestand. I seem to pick up a new fact or question every day. Most of us have done diets without real supervision and a lot of cheating. Don't give up talk with your surgen/nurse and you will find that the depression is common place. I think the only reason for the eval is to simply give us another stress button. Also all who read this please direct me to it when I start to whine about what I am facing next week.

If a second opinion is an option, I would go for it. You may hear the same thing.... but who knows. Good luck to you!!! Becky

Maybe so, but I'd then be concerned about getting the answer you want but having important issues that are still unresolved that need to be dealt with pre-op. I don't think asking her to lose 20 or 40 pounds pre-op is too far a stretch. So far there hasn't been total commitment with a nutritionist -- and there is no difference in adhering to proper eating with the band.

I was worried about the psych eval going in. I have a history of depression, OCD, anxiety and mild (VERY mild) mania. I was terrified all of that would preclude me, especially since my issues are organic (fucked up brain chemistry) more than emotional, and when I'm on my med I'm good.

I think it turned out to not be a problem because I had dealt with my depression and such before surgery even became an option. And though it may seem weird, I was never depressed about my weight. That wasn't an issue. Go figure.

My psych issue was gettign int ouch with and setting up an appointment with them. It took a solid MONTH of calls back and forth to book an appointment.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
