how long does restriction last for after surgery??

Recommended Posts

Not sure if it goes away, but I am just taking the attitude that learning to live with it is appropriate and the way to go. lol! It reminds me of when I was a slender early 20something and didn't eat much. I have not felt this kind of hunger in years, which is probably how I wound up as big as I did. I just try to sip on something with some Protein and/or a little fat four or five times a day. It helps keep me stable blood sugar-wise.

I do know the painful constriction that I had in my chest for the first few days after surgery is gone now...felt like I was having a heart attack for a while there. That is better now and I only feel tight when I eat. I'm just glad its working! My surgeon is pretty great...I have my first fill in three weeks.

I totally get what you are saying - full at the top - hungry at the bottom. And - I also get the gas pains after I eat (drink really). I made mashed potatoes tonight in anticipation of me moving onto to mushies tomorrow and could not resist a couple of bites - boy was that delicious!! After a week of Protein drinks & jello!

I am little over two and a half weeks post-op and still have pretty good restriction. I have also found since I moved to mushies that I must be careful how fast I eat or I get that sort of "stuck" feeling. I had it once yesterday and once today. Guess I am learning to ropes early.

I get my first fill in little over a week.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
