Where Decembers Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on the 11th. Surgery day not bad but the day after I had that shoulder pain. Glad I could stay one night in the hospital - don't know how I could have done it otherwise. Didn't feel too good on the 12th until I got home and took a shower in my own shower and got some clean clothes on. Had some bad shoulder pain but that is gone now. Am still on Clear Liquids and can tell I have lost quite a bit of weight but have not weighed since day of surgery. Lost 13 pounds on preop diet. Everyday gets better. Today I am able to enjoy my morning coffee and look forward to the day. I think I am done with pain meds as far as I can tell. I am so happy to be on the right road!

I'm getting banded Dec. 22. Anyone getting it so near the holidays? This liquid diet stinks. I have to do it two weeks before surgery. I know it is to loose liver weight, but it is still hard. How did everyone feel the night after and day after surgery?

I am scared too but with this forum, its has been wonderful! We can get thru this! I am nervous about being naked in front of all of those doctors, I worry about the strangest things! Did anyone have to have a catheter while on the table? see! too much worrying!

I think we all worry about some of the same things. I am a surgical nurse and have been in on many lapbands surgeries but I am still nervous about it. I will be naked and catheritized by people that I have to work with everyday!! The closer it gets, the more apprehensive I get! But this time next week it will be over and I will be banded...yea!!!

It's not silly. I was soooo anxious about being naked on the operating table. All for naught.

I remember nothing. If I passed my surgical nurses and such on the street I probably wouldn't recognize them. All I remember is saying hi to the anesthesiologist and then waking up in my room with the happy morphine pump.

I didn't have a catheter. They sort of chuckled when I asked if I would during surgery.

So I can assure you that while it's fine feeling the way you do there isn't much to worry about at all.

Focus on your recovery after and treating yourself well.

I hear a lot about surgical nurses and medical professionals getting this all the time. It's one of the things that I thought about that gave me the most comfort.

You poor girl! See, it can always get worse (I tell myself). You will do fine, we are all just another nekkid bod to them! I know my hospital does dozens and dozens of r n y's and lapbands....just another day at the office for them. Thanks for everyones stories, I will be embarrassed when it's all said and done over how much of a deal I made of it! :frown:

I'm bad...I have "cheated" on my preop diet, but I havent had any carbs. That has been tough. I am losing weight though. This time of the year is harder than ever, let's give ourselves more credit! We are very strong people to do this right before the holidays. You will do fine, the days are counting down!

:)

I gained about 7 (I stayed overnight). Doc said it's all the fluids they give you. It will drop away as soona as your body is over the trauma of surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
