Sorry, I just have to vent

Hi Everyone,

Right now, I'm so discouraged! I've spent the last 4 months running from doctor to doctor, test to test, trying to get everything in order so I can submit to my insurance for approval for the lap band. See, my surgeon said since my bmi is ONLY 36 (as if that isn't enough) I need to show that I have co-morbidities. I already had diagnosed gastric reflux, polycystic ovarian syndrome and stress incontinence. Now, since all my testing, I have insulin resistance. It seems each doctor I go to has more tests I have to wait for before I can submit for approval and get a surgery date. Yesterday, I went for a sleep study and was told it will be 3 weeks before I get the results! I'm tired of waiting... After insurance approval, my surgeon is booked up for about 4 months (another wait)! By the time I get the surgery, it will be almost a year since I started this escapade! :o I'm beginning to feel it will never happen.

Sorry, I know many of you went through the same thing, I just needed to let loose and get this off my chest!

Thanks for listening,

Marsha

Marsha,

That sounds so frustrating. Hang in there.........it's worth it. At least your insurance is willing to approve the surgery. Mine wouldn't even consider it, which is why I was self-pay in Mexico. I didn't even want to try to fight my insurance.

$10,000 later and 40 pounds lighter, I wouldn't change a thing!

Good luck and patience to you!

Marsha, I can so relate to what you're going through. From the time I decided the band was what I needed to the time it was a reality, 13 long months passed. I'm not really sorry, though, because WLS is a huge step and this gave me time to really think it through. Now I'm 100% on board and ready to make it work.

And now, 13 months doesn't seem like a very long time after all.

Thanks to everyone for all your support. This process is so frustrating but I know that in the end it will be worth it. I just can't wait to live my life as a normal sized person!

Keep the faith that all this will pass, all the tests the waiting the Dr. visits and then some more waiting. You will soon hear those words that seem so golden. I too felt the same as you do, but yesterday after what seem like the longest 5 1/2 months I did get that call from my Dr. office and it felt great to hear them so keep the faith. ( I have a date for Nov.18 2003)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
