Vonage or other internet phone service

Recommended Posts

Anyone use these? Or have you?

I'm thinking about getting this as landline is going to cost too much and every call is longdistance since I'm in the middle of two areas- everything costs!

And with my cable...digital phone is like 20 bucks per jack for installation plus the 29 for installation and 40 bucks a month.

A little pricy for me.

Thanks everyone!

I haven't tried it personally, but a couple of people I work with have Vonage and really like it.

I completely got rid of the landline several months ago. It finally dawned on me that we all have cell phones and none of us use the landline anymore, so what was the point of paying for it.

I use Skype - and it's great. As my family and friends are everywhere from New Zealand and England to Canada and South America, long distance calls were too expensive. I use it faithfully and have encouraged several friends and family to do so as well. It is also cheaper than the other Internet services...one minimum fee per year.

I've been using Verizon Voice-wing voice over IP (VOIP) for the past 3 years. Bell South (now AT&T) jerked me around for the last time and charged me a huge contract termination fee on my cell phones when we moved to TN and they wouldn't work at my house.:wink2:

I just said FU Bell South, you'll never get a cent of my money ever again. Changed cell phones, and got rid of the Bell South land line. Now I get VOIP over my cable connection for less than $30 month with lots of cool features and unlimited local and long distance. I'm very happy with it, but I do lose phone service, when the cable goes down. ...but it automatically forwards to my cell phone when it does go down.

It's not perfect, but it's much cheaper than a traditional phone line, and it allowed me to sever ties with "the phone company"! :crying:

Thanks for the ideas.

I went with magicjack. I figured for the 40 bucks for a years worth of calling - was worth the 'risk' if it didn't work.

I've been using it for 2 weeks now and love it. I will not ever have another phone bill-for life. (as long as the company keeps providing the service)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
