Oh my gosh.. got my date, August 1! Today I see the nutritionist for pre op diet. My wierd little mind is already trying to circumvent the diet, how will I go to a baby shower? my in-laws anniversary?? My first thought was to lie and say I was having some mysterious female surgery..... My spikey daughter said , Heck mom, you have done all this research, gone to fifteen dr. apointments, and it's your body and you are doing something good, tell them the truth, you're having lap band surgery and go for it! So today I start my journey, a little scared, and a lot hopeful for a different kind of life.

NOW thats what I call a good daughter- someone is very proud of you!

I myself am a closet bandster & am very happy I am! I wouldn't want to be outed. I have alot less pressure than most outed bandsters do!

Congrats on your date- its around the corner & you come through w/flying colors! So happy you have the support at home.

Make the choice you want to. I have told a number of people. I think it would have been easier not telling them but I know a few people have checked out the surgery because of it. I live in a conservative (but fat) part of the country so if figure that if I can help educate others on the band, it may help them or a friend have a better life or health.

I'm also a closet bandster, only people VERY close to me that I trust know.

As for going to showers or whatever...hell, tell them you are on a diet, or doing lo carb, or something like that. People usually go "ooh! Good for YOU" then back off.

I was getting offended that people kept monitoring how much I ate until I said "you know, I'm lo carbing....just trying to get a few pounds off" and people leave me alone now.

Good luck with your decision to tell or not tell. You know, a lot of people still haven't heard of the band so if you tell be totally prepared to answer a LOT of questions.

Congrats on your surgery date! I'm so excited for you!!

Smart daughter you have.

as parents we teach our children that lying is not a good thing.

You are an adult able to make your own choices. If those around you do not understand or support your decision, that is their problem not yours. Dont worry about what others may think or may say..you are doing this for you and no one else

Like the others, I think you have to make the decision that fits your personality. Myself, I'm an open book about lots of things, not everything. Lapband surgery is one of the things I have been very open about; and have had nothing but good wishes and encouragement. My situation might be different, too. I have worked with the same teachers for 20 years or so...yes, there are a few new ones here and there, but mostly, the same crew, kinda like a dysfunctional family. So, if I tried to keep a secret like that, it would soon be out anyway. Also, I have found when I can tell others about something, they respect it, and I have even helped some people to learn about subjects they were previously uneducated about. On the other hand, I would never be offended if someone kept their surgery secret. You do what you think is right for you. My 2 cents (but I usually throw in 1 more for good measure!) Cindy

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
