I am really struggling right now and really realize what an addiction to food I have. I look at something and really am sad that I cannot eat the whole thing. :) Anyone else in that situation? Any advice?[

I understand completely. I was banded on 11/3 and when I read your thread I realized that I am a food addict. Its hard because it seems like we have to go through it alone. I have research Overeaters annonymous. I want to go to a meeting. I am just a little scared for some reason. I am anxious to see some peoples answers.

I completely understand how the two of you feel. I myself am in the same boat, but I also realize that it is also one of the reasons I needed the band in the first place.

I was banded in April and I am fully aware that I have a long battle ahead of me due to the amount of weight I have to lose and my own relationship with food. I also know this is something I can overcome. I did not get this way overnight and I can't fix it with the band...however it is a great tool :)

Good Luck!

Amy

Will it help to look at what you cannot finish and say to yourself "I'll have the rest later"? I'm not eating foods yet and am worried that I will feel the same way.

The further you get out from banding, the less you have these feelings. For me, food was everything before banding . . . it has changed to an afterthought. I used to even have dreams regarding eating, now they are gone.

The change in mind set is the hardest part of the journey . . . but you may be amazed by how much it changes in the first six months of being banded. Restriction really makes a difference in your outlook on food and life in general. It only gets easier as time goes on.

I am over 2 yrs out and still feel the same way that you do. I love the taste of food and still want to eat it all. It doesn't matter if it's as healthy as a banana, I still want to eat the whole thing, even when I'm full. I didn't have this problem in the first year, but the second year has been more difficult. I think I am starting to miss the comfort food had given me in the past. I think it's time for me to talk to a therapist about my issue. Good Luck Girls!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
