Depression and the lapband (economic depression)

Recommended Posts

I just went thru 4 days of no food in my pantry and only Condiments and a tub of cool whip in the fridge.

What a blessing the band has been!

Long story short, I ran out of money and didn't have any for groceries...payday being just 4 days away.

I scraped up the change around the house for lunch money and we didn't drive the car- no gas.

A few bites here and there of grits kept me going. The 2 frozen meals, Soups and stuff I did have went to my daughter. She didn't even realize we were out of food.

She did look in the fridge and saw condiments in the door w/ bare shelves. I just said I was cleaning it out. :)

Thank goodness for the band! I don't know what would have happened if I was still a binger during these economic times.....I'd be really broke. [fyi: out of money due to mother's death-I had to pay for the flowers and grave marker...one more payment of 800 dollars and I'm done! So December is going to be a tight month as well]

Just a suggestion, try calling around for a food bank. I know it's not a wonderful thing to do, but your child neds food. You have nothing to fall back on now. They might help with Christmas too. Or call the financing place, and request to make half payments. They may work with you. I hate to see people doing without.

I agree, the foodbank would help you easily and it is anonymous, none needs to know but you. It is worth a quick call. Also, if you are that close to the wire between paychecks right now, getting a little extra food will help you spread your remaining dollars a little further.

I agree as well about splitting your payments up more, they may be accomodating. It is hard to be really short of cash with a daughter at Christmas time. Putting $400 back into your pocket will help your holidays go a little easier (plus January can be bolstered with tax returns as well as a working parent).

You are right though about food needs changing. I must be saving a ton of money in lack of eating out/drive thru/impulse grocery buying, etc.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
