scared and nervous

Recommended Posts

I am about to enter the real food stage after my surgery. I seem to do fairly well with the 1/2 cup but do get hungry shortly after. Any suggestions? I am afraid that I will not be able to stick to the plan especially since I don't have any restriction. Do I stay around 1000-1200 calories? I will not have a fill until Jan. 8. what did you do after you began to eat normally?

Thanks.

Right now your in bandster hell . the stage between your surgery and your first fill. You are going to be hungry . You have to learn to ignore it for a short time.

If you do ok w/ 1/2 cup you might want to try to push it a little more ( IF You do not feel like your STUFFED ) and eat little more . You might be doing what i did initially when i got on real food and your stopping yourself before you needed to because you were scared and your actually not getting in enough to eat .

As for calories, i would ask your doc , its probably best to stay around that , but check w/ him first.

As far as sticking to the plan . The "plan" Is NOT the same NOW as it is when you have restriction . So dont worry about ,

the band is NOT A diet , its a tool .

the best thing you can do is eat Protein Protein protein !

Protein is going to keep you full .

HTH

I think sticking to a routine really helps. Plan out your meals ahead of time and make sure you get your snack times in a well. I went on a low car diet once I was able to eat and I did pretty well. I went about 3 hours between Snacks and meals and kept my calorie intake to 1000 calories.

I agree , not allowing yourself t go too long between meals or allowing yourself to get "too hungry " helps too .

However , my personal opinion , dieting and the band is pointless. why get the band if your going to diet. Once you get restriction a "diet" is not needed.

So just hang in there !

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
