Right before surgery...?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering, do they weigh you right before surgery? I've been on this pre-op diet, and want an "official" surgery weight. I guess it's a trivial question, but I figure someone here knows the drill. I think I have a few other questions, too, but I'll get to those later! Thanks in advance, Cindy

You better believe they'll weigh you before surgery. They'll need to know to make sure anesthesia amounts are correct. I lost 1.5 pounds just being on the liquids-only diet for 24 hours pre-surgery.

The weighed me after they got me in my gown that morning...

Oh, and don't be disappointed if you weigh when you get home. I gained 6lbs in two days at the hospital from all the Fluid they pumped in me....It came off in the first week easily.

Good luck!

I suggest getting a good scale and weighing yourself the day you go for surgery. From what I see, different scales can have different numbers. I like to keep my own record by weighing myself everyday at the same time. You can't weigh yourself one day in the morning and then another day at night. I weight myself every morining in my jammies right after I "relieve" myself and before I have Breakfast.

Chris S, that's what I usually do...I bought a digital scale (guess I'll sell the other on Ebay), so I'm set. sometimes weighing every day makes me crazy, but I probably won't be able to help myself! You have done great!!!!!! I was reading your stats, and you are at the goal weight I have set for myself...thanks for visiting here and posting even two years out from your surgery. You inspire me, and other, too, I'm sure! Of course, I'm kinda new, and they probably know you already...thanks! Cindy

If you can stay off of the scales for the full week after surgery - you deserve an award or something :) I wieghed the morning of surgery at home - to have my base weight on my scales, and then they weighed me in my gown.

My Dr. asked that I just please not wiegh myself 6 times a day - I only weigh once in the morning now :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
