I'm still in my 30's...for another 7 months, anyway.

At 39 I started into this with PCOS and hypothyroidism and am doing very well. The PCOS has already been resolved and I will be at goal within 9 months!

The Lap Band has been great for me. I don't think that age is so much of an issue with us 30-somethings. It has more to do with which surgery is best for the individual.

Hi Lilbit,

I am 38 and just was banded on 10/13/08. I was scheduled for RNY on 8/4 and changed my mind on 7/31. I just could not do it. Too many complications. Not sure if this makes sense or not but I could never see myself after that surgery. It just never felt right to me. I happen to read a story from a lady who had RNY like 15 years ago and regreated every moment of it. The comment that just clicked and brought it all home for me was " I did this to be healthy but I didn't realize I was healthy just fat".

My niece had RNY on 7/16 and has lost 104 lbs to date. She looks horrible. Her hair is falling out in clumps, she is pale as a ghost. She can not eat any meat at all. She is only 31. I worry about her every day.

I'm 37, and I had LB surgery in March of '08. I think I'm doing great. Even when the weight loss slows down during those dreaded plateau periods, my body is still changing with exercise. I'm almost at the 70 pound mark. I'd like to be at the 100 pound mark by my bandiversary in March. I'll have to pick up my exercise in order to do that.

You have to be patient at times. Our bodies are mysterious things that we can't always understand what they are doing. You have to trust the process and stick with the program.

Did you make your final decision?

I know I am a little late on this post. I did choose the band over R&Y and it has been the perfect choice for me. I have lost pretty close to 100% of my excess weight on the band.

had mine done couple years ago. Don't know the exact date or month, but I think it was in March cause I scheduled it around March Madness time. But in my 30's now and all is gravy. No problems at all. No regrets either.

Just wondered if you made a decision between lap band or RNY yet?

Im 37 and never considered RNY, even though I do have 100lbs to lose. My aunt had RNY and did great at first, but years later put all the weight back on. I know each person is different, but watching someone yo-yo like that really made me think. I have never had surgery, so the RNY seemed extreme to me and really scared me off.

I met a coworker who was looking into lap band and we talked about it quite a bit and went to a couple of seminars. I researched it for several months before ever deciding on a surgeon and starting the process.

I know for myself, that I chose the right surgery and surgeon. It took awhile to go through all the insurance hoops and I was finally banded this January - but it was well worth the wait.

Update us and let us know which you picked!!

Having the Lapband surgery was the best decision I have ever made! I know that everyone is different and has different experiences with the band, but all of my experiences have been nothing but wonderful! I would recommend to anyone!

I have many friends that have done RNY, and that was just not the surgery for me. I am glad I went with the band!

Good luck with what ever you decide!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
