MustangGirlRN 0 Posted November 25, 2008 Mine are probably similar to everyone elses: 1. To add 10-15 years onto my life to enjoy my family, kids, and eventually grandkids! 2. To sit comfortably in an airplane seat, or at one of the kids' concerts or performances. (Without having to wrap my arms almost around myself and not breath to avoid touching who I have to sit next to). 3. To be the person that I imagine myself being. (Confident, secure, and pretty). 4. To only have to wear deodorant under my arms.
Jachut 487 Posted November 25, 2008 I'd have to say too that despite both DH and I "only" reaching BMI's of 36, it was getting hard to ahve good sex. DH had a big beer gut which got in the way. Fellas, losing the gut does make you a better lover!

Fellas, losing the gut does make you a better lover! jachut, you shouldn't have to say "only" a 36 BMI. everyone has a different perception of what they feel is beautiful. heck, im at a 35-36 bmi now and i KNOW i'm pretty but i also KNOW i am fat! at a 35 bmi you are clinically obese and therefore had just as much a right to this surgery as someone with a higher weight. i didn't have any health problems but, then again, i had a 40 BMI at age 20... and plan on having kids one day. I could tell myself all I want, but I knew 20, 30, 40 years later I wouldn't magically be thin with just dieting and exercise alone.... and would likely have serious health problems at that. i cant tell you how many people told me they wish they had the surgery BEFORE they had health problems. She Smiles 2 Posted November 25, 2008 I'm totally with you on the reunion thing. My 10 year reunion was 3 days after my surgery. "Luckily" I was still too unwell after my surgery to go..... I was 28 when I was banded and had been slimmer in my early 20's via fanatical exercising and disordered eating, so I had known what it was like to be a normal size. I wanted to feel good about my appearance again! I disgusted myself a few months before surgery when on a flight from Sydney to LA in economy class the (thin) girl that was in the seat next to me grimaced as I told her "looks like this is where I am sitting". It was a painful 14 hour flight with my fat bursting out from under the chair arms..... Also, sex is better, walking (AND running! I can run!) is easier, I don't get rashes under my boobs and stomach from the sweat and most importantly I can wear heels instead of the most boring comfortable shoes I could fit my always bloated feet into LOL. I wear heels EVERY day to work now.
BethFromVA 5 Posted November 25, 2008 I miss heels... as uncomfortable as they are even when you are normal size. But the fact that I can't wear those sexy shoes just bums me.
She Smiles 2 Posted November 25, 2008 I don't find them uncomfortable at all now, it took a little while to get used to them after wearing only flats for so long. But its SO worth it for me to have that extra 3 inches of height elongating me *is very vain* haha
Jachut 487 Posted November 25, 2008 (edited) Hehe, I like wearing them now because they make me 6ft tall (and sometimes even taller). there's no doubt about it, if you're thin and very tall, people assume you've got supermodel looks too - they double take ALL the time and dont even appear to register what you actually look like. Its like you've got two parts of the formula so they assume the whole. Not that I'm vain or anything....... much. Oh - no more fat rash in the summer. I could never ever wear a skirt because my fat thighs would rub together and get really sore. I can also wear a g string and my fat arse doesnt gobble it up. Megmegs13 0 Posted November 25, 2008 1. Can't wait to wear a thong...comfortably...well as comfy as they get LOL 2. Wanna be able to have my hubby's arms all the way around me when we slow dance 3. Would love it when the girls no longer choke me when lying on my back 4. NO MORE RUBBING THIGHS!!!!
Daisalana 33 Posted November 25, 2008 My BMI was 29 at the lowest so far before I got pregnant, and I still had a big flabby belly that interfered with sex..
msjessy 0 Posted November 25, 2008 Keep up with my DH and DD. They have a ton of energy and I dont. I don't want to be the reason they don't do things. Clothing was just too darn expensive!! Do you know how much a complete outfit costs in Lane Bryant!!?! For that price my sister could get 2 or 3 outfits in a regular store. To one day finally have a chance to be the HOT sister. Not the cute, funny or nice sister...but the hot one that makes you do a double-take. Wanting to not think about food all of the time. Wondering when or where my next meal was because I was starting to get hungry. I'm sure I'll think of more. I love this thread.
spal66 1 Posted November 25, 2008 1. Being able to fit in a booth at a restaurant. 2. Going somewhere out in public and looking too see what chair or bench looks sturdy enough to hold me. 3. This is gross.....but honest...the wiping thing is so true, but even harder is to wear a damn tampon!
BethFromVA 5 Posted November 25, 2008 I can also wear a g string and my fat arse doesnt gobble it up. My mom had once asked me if I had ever worn a thong. I said, "Mom, when you're this fat, a thong is a pair of undies that are three sizes too small."
luluc 6 Posted November 25, 2008 jachut, you shouldn't have to say "only" a 36 BMI. everyone has a different perception of what they feel is beautiful. heck, im at a 35-36 bmi now and i KNOW i'm pretty but i also KNOW i am fat! at a 35 bmi you are clinically obese and therefore had just as much a right to this surgery as someone with a higher weight. same here - was around 36ish day of surgery. most of this was sheer vanity for me as well. the shopping UP (buying clothes bigger) was really the worst. my guest closets got filled up with everything cute that i could no longer wear & replaced with crappy clothes just bought to cover the A$$. i also did not enjoy becoming the "fat" friend, who was once the smallest. i would eat before going out to luncheons so i would pick at my food, not allowing anybody to comment on my meal intake....while the rest ate like they had a band. did anyone ever look in a mirror? it was like a 5yr sitting shiva (jewish mourning covering the mirrors w/silk)...i never followed through w/my looks heading out because the mirror was telling me what i already knew but was trying to deny. hubby says i'm back to where i was when we got married but with more confidence. he even bought me slutty thigh high boots this wkend and a wrap dress for turkey day. i should say - i'm neither of those 2 types (heels & dresses) but it will be nice to be a girl for the holiday w/out me kicking ^ screaming...LOL
Apples2 19 Posted November 25, 2008 I was like Lulac....avoided the mirrors at all cost. I did the LB mostly because I felt like CRAP ALL THE TIME. The first thing that would go through my mind in the morning and the last thing at night was how awful I felt and looked. 15 years ago I was 130lbs...felt wonderful and looked wonderful. Today I am 130lbs....feel wonderful and look wonderful. Anything I went through in the last year was sooooooooooooo worth it! I have always had the ideal life with my DH and two sons. But, because of my weight I felt everything was out of control because I could not control my hunger. I was born hungry. Now I only think of food for nourishment. I do not miss: The disgusting sweat under my boobs and lower stomach. Even if I had just showered, I felt unclean. Taking ten minutes just to roll over in bed. Having a huge stomach between me and my DH (who has always been in shape) while making love. A persistent cough while laying down because my upper body weight was choking me. Not being able to walk more than 50 feet without getting winded. Aching EVERYWHERE...sore knees, sore joints, aching muscle. All the aches and pains left with the first 40lbs. Having to buy horribly ugly clothes because that's all I could fit into. Tshirts and elastic waist pants. 20 years ago was voted best dressed by our Chamber of Commerce. It sucks the big one to wear a tent for 15 yrs. when I knew what it was like to pride yourself in how you looked. Looking good is just a perk in this whole deal. Always being on the run cuz I feel so great is the biggest benefit. Not avoiding people that knew me b/4 the "tent stage of life". Having people come up to me and say "The old you is back" just about makes me cry.
green 6 Posted November 25, 2008 Yah, I sat permanent shiva, too. I also avoided having pictures taken of me whenever possible.
