Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Slow goin'

Recommended Posts

Help! I was banded with the AP band on 7-22. Lost 10 lbs before the surgery, 5 more during the first week and none since. I've been adjusted about 5 times. My surgeon claims he can pull saline back out and there are no leaks. I'm restricted for SOME bread but other than that can eat pretty much anything. I find I can eat literally 6 cups or more of fries, popcorn, chips, candy, but 1/8 cup of eggsalad on bread. I need a mentor! I'm losing hope and losing motivation but gaining a huge appetite!!! ~Lynn:sad_smile:

I know that you said you have had 5 fills already but obviously, it is not restricting you if you can eat 6 cups of anything. Maybe you can ask your doctor to completely unfill you and then fill you again to see just how much you have in your port. You should be eating at the most one cup of any food so it sounds like you really do not have any restriction.

In the meantime, how about going back to basics? What kind of diet were you on before the surgery to lose weight? How about jumpstarting yourself with a week of a liquid diet or a low car diet? Once you start losing weight again, you will probably start feeling better about yourself and not eat all the starch and sugar you are doing right now. Remember, we are food addicts so we always need to get back on the wagon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
