Help me clairfy something on my pre-op diet

Recommended Posts

I'm going to call my Dr. tomorrow and clarify this but I would like your opinions.

My pre-op diet instructions say:

1cup of milk (skim, 1%, lactaid or 2%) or 8 oz Yogurt (Dannon light, Yoplait Light or Colombo Light) or 1/2 cup cottage cheese- 3 or less each day
Reading that does it look like I can have any 3 of those on the list, either 3 cups of milk OR 1 cup of milk, 1/2 cup of CC, and 1 yogurt OR 1 1/2 cup of CC?

Or does it look like I can on have just one of the items, 1 cup of milk or 1 yogurt or a 1/2 cup of CC?

Your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Each of those items listed is considered one serving, and it's saying you can have 3 servings or less per day...

So essentially, you can have 1c of skim milk and 2 8oz yogurts today. Tomorrow you could have 2c of skim milk and 1/2c of cottage cheese.

Does that make sense?

Yes it does. Thank you. That's what I've been doing except I've been eating the cottage cheese instead of yogurt because I don't really like yogurt. And the cottage cheese has been helping with keeping me from getting the empty feeling from not having solid foods while on the diet.

Yes, good thinking! Cottage cheese has much more Protein than yogurt does, so it helps you stay full for longer. It seems a bit thicker too, so that helps keep you full also. Good luck on your journey!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
